Apple to unveil AI-enabled Safari browser alongside new operating systems
All this TALK about AI, but so little to show for it. Yeah, I know about the coming announcement, but I'm honestly not holding my breath.
All said, I want SIRI to stop being an idiot. Only moments ago, I invoked Siri on my 16" M1 Max MBP and asked it to open TouchID so I could add a new fingerprint, and foolish Siri responded back with "I can't do that." What a complete idiot. Siri is utterly worthless. If this AI talk makes Siri do even the most basic tasks FINALLY, then maybe it will be worth it. But to this very day, all that tech Apple has poured into Siri hasn't resulted in something usable for me. -
Apple's generative AI may be the only one that was trained legally & ethically
Apple News is "quality" but how many of us even here on AppleInsider read it daily? I certainly don't. On mobile, I tend to use Flipboard and find it more than adequate, although I tend to get a good chunk of my Apple news here on AppleInsider.
As to copyright and ethics, few end users will give heed to that in the end. Most people just want the best AI possible. And when the AI wars have been waged, 10 years hence, I doubt most consumers will look back on the early days of AI and scream, "Yeah, but Apple was the most ethical back then." This is not to promote illegal or unethical activity, mind you. It's just reality.
Apple needs to have some serious edge in its AI as compared to the competition which has nothing to do with whether they paid everyone appropriately, dotted every i and crossed every t. And in light of how bad Siri is, I myself am going to be seriously disappointed if Apple releases something that isn't even as good as ChatGPT3, which isn't all that great. I basically want an AI that does what I tell it to do or gives me the results I need no lets than 80% of the time. I don't want to hear ChatGPT style excuses like "I was only trained on data up through XX/XX" and uses that as a cop-out for being unable to properly answer a question. I would also like the ability to have my own trainable AI, and I don't mind sharing that to the greater AI out on the net. In other words, an AI that Apple trains along side every single user of that same AI. Imagine how much faster it could improve in that case. -
Apple Vision Pro shipments reportedly cut as US demand for headset wanes
charlesn said:So ALL of this is nonsense built on a foundation of nonsense.
The entire tech media yesterday spewed forth basically the same thing. No important analysis like you presented at all. This basically proves that the media can mislead as well as inform. Misinformation can impact stock prices, and much more. Scary stuff.

Apple Vision Pro shipments reportedly cut as US demand for headset wanes
All this is ASSUMPTION based on what the overly glorified Ming-Chi Kuo has to say. The tech media worships the man because of his track record, but none of these numbers are really independently verified, so what is the real truth here? If you can't say what is actual truth, it is then SPECULATION, even if from a well-informed individual with a good track record.
With that said, even if the VISION PRO was cheaper and lighter, I personally think there's a fundamental marketing issue that puts a bad taste in my mouth.
One of the biggest features Apple has touted to differentiate the VISION PRO from competition products is the image of your eyes on front. That feature is there to make you and others feel less isolated. That's a key differentiator if indeed it works. In all photos of VISION PRO that Apple has shown us, the simulated eyes of the wearer are CLEARLY SEEN. And that looks fantastic! But! In all the videos and reviews I've seen of people wearing the actual VISION PRO device, it's pretty much impossible to see the simulated eyes. And despite my absolute and unbreakable love for Apple, I am saddened to say that is really a case of false advertising here. No, I don't believe they should be sued over it because Americans have brain rot from suing so much. I hate lawsuits of any kind because of it! But at the same time, you cannot define "False Advertising" in other way.
So I for one am not inclined to buy the VISION PRO for that reason alone. And I do think it is a good enough reason. Your mileage may vary. -
Senator Warren doesn't have a plan to break up Apple, but still wants to pretty badly
VictorMortimer said:She's not wrong.Apple has gotten too big. It's not the only company that needs to be broken up, of course, but it's time.
Ah, America. What hath become of thee?
Land of the Free? Perhaps not when a growing majority of citizens seek to take freedom away from any individual or corporate entity which they deem a threat.
Home of the Brave? Meaning, those "brave" citizens who FEAR America's home-grown success stories when they become exceedingly successful.
Anyone who agrees with the senator and Victor Mortimer would be wise to do the following:
1. Stop using all Apple products and services, to fall in line with your sentiment that Apple is too large and needs to be broken up.
2. Sell all your AAPL stock, including all mutual funds which have AAPL in them. Never buy any stake in AAPL again.
3. Stop reading AppleInsider and posting in its forums.
4. Start an organization to make your own dent in the universe, showing the world that your ideas are as great as you think they are.
Perhaps then you will have a position that people can appreciate.
