  • Japan plans to fine Apple over app stores and force sideloading

This looks like the first shot of a trade war.
Not a true "trade war".  Biden won't do anything — that's clear from his inaction on Apple Watch.  A re-elected Trump might stand up for Apple because it's a valuable US-based, home-grown success story.  In such a case, I suspect Trump might say, "tax our companies, and we'll tax yours 10-fold."  That would halt Japan's actions pretty quickly.  But that most likely would come after Japan has already enacted their taxes on Apple.

The EU disease is infecting the planet.
While I cannot disagree with the fact the "EU" is properly pronounced "Eeeeeeewwww!" and for good reason, I will say that in this particular case, Japan is the country at fault, largely driven by their own desires, not that of EU trends.  The root problem here is the vicious desire to TAX & SPEND.  If you exclude that, Japan wouldn't be taking any kind of action at all.  Japan just wants more money so it can spend more, and not really do that much from all that spending.  I know because I've lived here in Japan since 1994.  Their sales tax hikes in the 1990's were said to cause only a few months to a year (at most, they said) of misery, but we've never really recovered.  Tax & Spend lunacy at its finest.  And yeah, sales taxes are applied on grocery items too in Japan.  So if you're poor and can hardly afford milk, you'll pay sales tax on that milk -- oh es you will!  They charge you 8% on that milk, unless you go to McDonalds and drink it in-store. Then they'll tax it 10%.

Tax & Spend is the real disease.  The only way that can stop is when the people rise up and stop it.  But no one is.  Everyone complains, to be sure, but they refrain from revolutionary changes that could fixing the system.  Everything keeps going the way it always has.  Tax and spend, tax and spend, tax and spend...

  • Apple Silicon M3 Pro competes with Nvidia RTX 4090 GPU in AI benchmark [u]

The article falls flat with the updated numbers because, despite the power consumption advantage, the 4090 is so much faster that difference matters nothing.  In other words, if you can get THAT much more performance, it may be worth that much extra power draw.

And for those saying the Mac version isn't optimized, well, we can only comment on the data we have right now, which is, no optimized Mac version.  When they optimized Mac version hits, then I can re-evaluate my remarks at that point in time.  But for now, the crown is clearly on the head of the 4090, despite the massive increase in power consumption.

  • PETA names Apple as the 2023 Company of the Year

A company is only as good as their products, and I assure you, that case will not win "product of the year."

Imagine Tim Cook having this conversation at Apple...

"Let's make a vastly inferior iPhone case so we can win the praise of PETA."

We can almost do a "LOL" here, but then reality hits.  Tim did just that.

  • Senator Warren wades into Apple's Beeper fight with irrelevant antitrust rhetoric

A political post where comments are allowed?  Now this is quite nice!  Bravo, AppleInsider.  It actually makes me happy that "Eightzero" isn't happy.

    Let freedom reign!
