Apple's next-generation 'CarPlay Ultra' is finally here
entropys said:No doubt it can be put into some late models with digital clusters. But why would a manufacturer update a say, 2021 car when they can encourage you to buy a new one?
So you end up with a spectrum of customers, some of which hang on to an iPhone until it dies and others who change their phone every year. But they all come back to Apple.
It's the perception that the car is old and not supported by the manufacturer. I have a 2017 Prius with the same old boring display in the center console. I bring the car into to Toyota for service as needed but they've never updated the system. It's eight years old now and because it's only done 60K and isn't breaking down there is no reason to buy a new one. But in a few years time I will and it is likely that it isn't going to be a Toyota. Definitely an electric car and one of the key criteria will be that it has to have good CarPlay interactivity and the ability to update the system easily.
Another reason why the iPhone is so successful is the app experience. The comment about GM making their own infotainment system shows how short sighted they are. By engaging in customers who treasure their phones and give them an experience they recognize will win over new customers. Let the customer choose whether they want CarPlay or Google car experience. You'll get more loyalty that way.

Apple's $900 million tariff bill in Q3 is a sign of Tim Cook's supply chain mastery
I wonder if the 900 million is just the tariff bill or the total cost of increasing production in India? Cook may have not discussed whether the cost of the units will eat into Apple's profit. Apple can certainly absorb some of it rather than pass it onto customers. Many industries won't be able to do that. It is a smart (maybe obvious) move to switch US imports to India. The other factor is that Trump and Modi are pals so maybe India gets a break from the worse of the tariffs.
My main concern is not that prices will go up but rather materials will stop being shipped to the US. We already have see container ships leaving China dropping significantly in the last month. It's going to be like COVID again. All the stuff that the US uses comes in bottles made in China. That supply will dry up soon even though a large amount of items like that were imported in the last few month to stock up ahead of the tariffs. Then there will be a double whammy. Tariffs increasing the cost of goods for everyday items plus the price increases due to poor supply levels.

Apple wins patent battle against AliveCor, avoids potential Apple Watch import ban
The AppleWatch Afib feature saved my life back in October 2020. Started noticing irregular heart beats and could see it on the AppleWatch. Then it started getting worse and the AW issued an Afib warning so went to the emergency room. I told the doctor and they put me straight on a EKG and a shot of medicine to slow my heart rate. Spend 5 days in hospital whilst they found the right medicine and I've been under control since then. Only need to take the medication on an as needed basis now.
Thanks Apple and AppleWatch.
