  • Apple refreshes and expands commitment to human rights

There is no such thing as “human rights.” If there was, everyone would have them. Apple should stop buckling to pressure from radical progressive groups and stay laser-focused on products and profitability. If any execs from Apple want to be political, they should do it on their own time and not use Apple’s money to do it.
Thankfully the world disagrees with this myopic mindset.
Maybe yours does, but for the most part the real world doesn’t give a rat’s ass about you or anyone else. It sounds harsh, but so is the real world. If “the world” cared you wouldn’t have the world you have.

  • Apple considers delay of iOS 14 privacy feature after ad industry backlash

Advertising is one of the biggest public nuisances, a massive waste of materials/resources, and it almost never gets called out by anyone... because everything is about advertising!!!!

I don’t give a dogdamned frell about these frelling advertising companies and their self-entitled whining. They’ve driven us to this point. Any losses on their part are ENTIRELY SELF-INFLICTED.
You are right on it being a public nuisance, however I think you are wrong on it being a massive waste of materials/resources. If that were true then it wouldn’t exist. I guess those flyers and e-junk generate enough traffic that make it worthwhile. Kind of like the Nigerian prince scheme. Most people know it’s a scam but enough people fall for it to make it worthwhile.

I wouldn’t be completely shocked if this news is true and Apple is siding with these business models. There is a TON of money changing hands out there. For me it’s like the US tax code. The tax code could be rewritten to eliminate the complexity overnight. But you’ll never see it happen because not only would an entire government agency be gutted but all the tax lawyers and accountants would be out of work.

  • Russian draft bill would force third-party app stores, cap commissions at 20%

The writing is on the wall: tech mega caps should relinquish some power and profits.

Let’s hope that also these big companies are taxed on the places they make their profits (and at a rate bigger of what I pay for my work, just saying) and that BEPS is also banned or at least limited.
    Relinquish them to who? Governments?

You think Russia, Europe, US, governments are more qualified to run a business than the people that created it?

Rewrite tax laws so they are fare. EVERYONE pays something. Bet you suddenly a lot more people would start caring how government wastes spends money.

New York used to be decently safe, what happened?
Yes, crime in NYC is a brand new thing...
Under Giuliani and Bloomberg things were relatively smooth. De Blasio is a psychopath.
De Blasio is an idiot and aloof, terrible mayor for many reasons but you can’t deny that up until a few months ago all crime had continued to decrease. The lowest murder rate on record was 2018, 5 years after Bloomberg left office. All crimes outside of shootings and murders have still continued to decrease.
I guess the fact NYC is still in the midst of this global pandemic, stores large and small are shutting down, a big section of the population is unemployed, not money is coming to citizens here or anywhere else in the nation and you wonder why people are taking risks to make a dollar to survive? Poverty breeds crime but I guess you have never been poor and can't imagine what desperate people will do to eat.
People aren't "making a dollar", they are stealing someone else's. Big difference.

If the mayor was that concerned about his middle class citizens he'd do what other mayors are doing, opening things up. The laws of what business owners can and can't do with their own business is a crime within itself.

Question, why does the Chicago theft discussion thread get shut down but not this one?
Because that one required five times the moderation time that this one has.
Have to ask, anything I said? I ask because I often respond to the absolute garbage posts that make it through. I rarely swear (which if you knew me in person you would congratulate me :D ). Do my best to avoid calling people names. Provide links to my sources when providing a different point of view/facts. Seems like every time I put forth an effort the thread gets the axe.
