  • Hackers obtained LastPass customer data vaults in recent data breach

This sort of failure is why I dropped 1Password last year and moved to Enpass which lets me keep my vaults local and allows WiFi sync amoungst all my devices. 1Password was essentially forcing everyone into their cloud solution and I just refuse to do that. Plus, most of the password managers have gone to subscription plans and Enpass offers a lifetime purchase. Enpass has some quirks and bugs, but I can live with that in return for not forcing me into the cloud.

My 2017 MBP 15" keyboard had these problems. I took it in to an Apple store and also pointed out that the battery seemed to be swelling (another issue some of this model were prone to developing). The battery swap also replaced the keyboard (integrated via glue) so both problems solved. No charge to me and process only took a few days. This was May of last year and I may be seeing new key sticking already. Hoping there will be a larger screen M2 MBA sometime soon.

  • Apple passkey feature will be our first taste of a truly password-less future

This is a good development. I am using Enpass now, having dumped 1Password when they forced everyone to put their secure data in the cloud. I only sync data to our other devices via Enpass' WiFi sync system. I realize these Passkeys would/could be in the Cloud, but I'm going to assume they are encrypted/protected in some manner and if a criminal got them would not necesarily be able to use them. Sounds like it might be possible to use them in the same way I use Enpass, and sync them to devices without storing them in iCloud.
I'm pretty sure that 1Password and iCloud use a similar vault-like system that encrypts your personal vault based on your password. If you don't have that they are screwed. If your password is stolen, either because it was weak to begin with or you've been compromised, then you're also screwed.

1Password hasn't forced anyone to use their cloud service, but I am still on version 7 instead of the newly launched version 8 because version 8 doesn't allow for syncing via iCloud or Dropbox, just through their cloud service. I do use their cloud service but it's not with my personal vault, but with shared vaults through the many family members that I manage.

Me: Thanks. The new extension does not work with the "Primary" vault that is stored on my Mac?
1Password: Correct, it does not. Standalone vaults will also not be part of the next major release of 1Password. You can read dave's statement on that in his recent post: https://1password.community/discussion/comment/601917/#Comment_601917

This conversation was between me and 1Password. I was using V7 at the time. V8 as you said does not work with standalone vaults. So people are being forced to put their data in the Cloud if they want to use up-to-date versions of the app. V7 will eventually not be surpported and will quit working on some future version of MacOS.

  • Apple hires Ford veteran for 'Apple Car' project

•Marc newson designed the O21C car for Ford as a design exercise in 1999.
•Newson and Ive, via Love From, have a deal to design cars for Ferrari as of September 2021
•Ive and Newson are known as "car guys" - From the New Yorker: "He and Newson are car guys, and they feel disappointed with most modern cars"
•Eddy Cue joined Ferrari's Board of Directors in November 2012.
•Love From is alleged to continue doing design work for Apple on an unknown basis/project.
•Apple hires a high level Ford safety exec indicating they are still serious about building a car.
•Apple hired Ulrich Kranz, a former senior executive at BMW AG’s electric car division in 2021.
    •Apple hired etc.etc.etc.

Seems to me the car project is still very much on and moving forward. And as far as looking at what Tesla did wrong, why bother if you are hiring exerienced designers, executives, engineers and experts from within the industry? The mistake Tesla made was not hiring anyone from the car industry until their production line was in chaos. Like Apple would ever do anything like that.
