Review: VocoLinc's Smart Power Strip is an easy but fickle way to upgrade 'dumb' devices
AI said:
The solution, fortunately, was fairly simple -- I'd just hit the power switch on the Smart Power Strip, wait for ten seconds, and then turn it back on. Of course, my power strip is in one of the most inconveniently located places in my apartment -- under my tiny desk, on a shelf designed to reduce cord-clutter.I feel your pain. But- you could but the Voco on a smart switch that's Siri aware and turn it on and off remotely! LOL Obviously it's better that the Voco work like it should. The ersatz workaround occurred to me after seeing somebody power cycle their router in the attic with Google and a smartswitch.

What Apple surrenders to law enforcement when issued a subpoena
mknelson said:
They can go to court and subpoena a password. AFAIK US courts have ruled against forcing you to use your biometrics.
There is no SCOTUS decision yet on whether physical force is allowable to use your biometrics against yourself. So most any court is free to rule for or against doing so. As it stands, in some states your blood can forcibly be drawn by medical personnel without a warrant, incident to arrest for DUI. Few medical people will do so but it's allowable, and some states allow the arrest and charging for refusing to draw blood. So drink and drive carefully. Better yet do one or the other but not both. -
Apple trims estimated payments for iPhone trade-ins
baconstang said:I noticed that the SE wasn't on the list. Then realized no one with an SE would be trading it in since there IS NO REPLACEMENT.
There have been a lot of posts on here and different forums about current SE owners not upgrading until their SE is dead, and some have stated they've bought another for as a backup, as have I. So yes, in a very real and accurate sense for many of us 'IS NO REPLACEMENT' is our sentiment.
I have given up all hope of Apple making an SE2 and like rumors of the next low-cost [strike that] entry level phone shifting to an iPhone 9 and not SE2. -
After two months, Apple TV+ lacks a breakout hit
Probably obviously, I've skipped almost all the previous comments.
A breakout hit and a good program aren't necessarily the same thing, especially with the latter being very subject. The Mandalorian is a bigger hit, a breakout hit, compared to The Morning show, For All Mankind, and Truth Be Told, but not as good of a show (I did say it's subjective). I like the former ok, but don't really see what all the fuss is about. Other than the sets and scenery (some say footage is 'borrowed' from films) there are better shows on OTA TV.
Who know's if Apple will come up with something of a breakout hit and if so, what type of show it'll be. I don't know where the line is drawn for 'breakout'. Some people would call Downton Abbey a breakout. I wouldn't be one of them.
I'm in for the long haul. I didn't expect anything out of the park, but I like what I see so far. I bought the iPhone on day one, and knew it was a breakout hit, even though it took another two-three years before most everybody knew it. That's good enough for me. -
Ricky Gervais roasts Apple as Golden Globes snub 'The Morning Show'
seanismorris said:Win an pretentious award... get put on my “do not watch” list.Fatman said:Aren't comedians supposed to be funny?
Some comedians are witty and clever, and know the difference between joking and insulting. Don Rickles was pretty good at making people laugh at themselves, which is a key difference between comedy and insults. To some people, comedy is insulting anyone but them.
I thought Gervais was pretty funny last year. I'll watch this year's awards to see if he walks the line or crosses it. That's also subjective.anantksundaram said:He roasted everyone. Standard cringe-worthy Gervais fare. I am not a fan, but Cook should have known what he was walking into.
Who says he didn't? You act like you know Hollywood and the industry, and he doesn't. That's laughable.
