Leaked iPhone 17 metal molds show off new camera protrusions
I've used and use a case on all my phones so the bump has never been a problem. Outside of my house or office or when not alone my phone is never face-up.
Making the back of the phone the same thickness as the rest of the bump would use more metal and increase the weight and possibly the cost of the phone. Weight wouldn't be a consideration for most of us but Apple trims 'fat' so as to maximize profit which is sometimes a benefit for the rest of us. I think they would see it as a significant needless expense. I think they'd be right. Less than The Notch I think this is more of an issue than a problem and not one for the majority of customers. -
How to turn on Siri on macOS without sending your Contacts to Apple
Even if there's some advantage to doing this, do we know that a subsequent macOS update would then sync your contacts to Apple, give that Siri would be enabled before the update?
Apple routinely turns on some setting when doing various updates. This is possibly because they ship OSs with some things enabled that some users don't want, so they turn them off. A subsequent update ships setting same as when Apple had them in the initial update, so they're "reenabled", to the ire of the user.
There are files I've deselected to be synced with iCloud, but syncing was enabled via an update. I disabled that, scrubbed iCould of the files (and maybe they're still there somehow) and very recently discovered iC had a bunch more of the docs. I had to disable syncing again, and scrub the files.
So Apple is not bound to trust your choices. They reset to boiler plate updates and it's up to you to fix what they 'fix'. -
Apple updates iPad Air with faster M3 processor
melgross said:Folks, this is the air. It’s a much cheaper tablet than the pro. What do you expect, a product with equal specs to a much more expensive model? This is a pretty good chip, with a good performance increase over the last model. Stop whining!
I like seeing Apple bring out updated products but fully realize that if I buy a product I'll have it for quite awhile. I usually won't be considering new gear until at least a third generation. I definitely wouldn't be thinking an Air line should be on par with their Pro line. I'll be looking at the iPP and iPmini when they next debut. That'll be four generations over what I have now.
This IPA will be a good upgrade for a lot of people just not everybody. Really what any one iteration of just about any product is good for everyone. -
Trump claims Tim Cook has committed Apple to massive US investment
I spoke with Tim Cook of Apple.
Extort $1M out of a guy, and he finally uses his correct name. Right Whiners say: "Why are you all so focused on his crimes. Let's ignore those and all his grift and just move forward". So we can watch him do it all again, and pretend it didn't happen. Already a lot of his cult base is whining about the Melania crypto coin. You asked for the leopard to eat your face. it won't be the last time it happens.
It's going to be an ugly four years and probably at least another for clean up some of the MAGA stain.

Apple employees fired over charity donation matching fraud
Six employees were charged, which becomes a matter of public record. Assuming guilt is proved, I'd want them to be jailed and fined harshly. That doesn't seem to happen often.
'Around fifty' have been fired. With no charges yet filed, it'd be wrong to name them. We're supposed to be a country of due process, innocent until proven guilty. There have somewhat recently been an infamous example of doxing someone who were innocent. That shouldn't be how it works.
So if and when any of the 'About Fifty' are charged, they become fair game for publication. Should Apple make a misstep in naming someone, they could end up paying more than they suspected any individual fraudulently gained. Upset because "Indians weren't named and only non-Indians were" reads very xenophobic.
AI isn't an investigative news platform, so my only problem would be if they were to report bad information. That they provided basically highlights or the reporting of other sources doesn't bother me. I never would have checked India Time to see if anything's poppin'. Whether or not IT does investigative journalism is beyond my kin or interest.
