  • Head-to-head: Apple News vs. Google News on iOS

I really don't want a news app to know very much about me at all. I like that I can pick news sources and themes, but for an app to select what I 'should be' interested in based on my profile is exactly what I do NOT want. The last thing I want when reading the news is a bunch of articles and editorials that have been chosen because I am likely to agree with them. If I am in favour of a party, or a politician, why would I only want to read stories that support my views? I am not going to select (in my case) Fox as a news source, but I still like to be challenged. I threw out Apple news for that reason and haven't replaced it with anything else. I try to go directly to a few primary sources.

  • How Steve Jobs changed the face of retail with the Apple Store

I remember buying my Apple gear on Tottenham court rd in London. The choices were basically micro Anvika or PC Warehouse (or whatever it was called), and both were utterly depressing places with staff that had no clue, actively tried to dissuade customers, and Macs that were grubby and un-cared for. Oh, and outnumbered at least 10-1 by PC's.

  • Apple's work on circular screens could lead to round-face Apple Watch

    Mmm.

Sounds like a lot of complexity and a lot of compromises.
You are probably right isn't digital watch and phone design all about 'complexity and compromise' I used to think a round digital watch face was lame and illogical. It doesn't make sense in terms of a digital display. whereas for a mechanical watch 'round' makes perfect sense. But over time I have come to realize that a round object on the wrist just looks better. It may just be because I am conditioned to think of watches as round but I find the shape more pleasing. Some of the Garmin watches look pretty good and I have been considering getting one. So yeah, a round Apple Watch face, please. Bring it on.

The amount of human beings that dont care about their personal data, privacy and security is pretty crazy. Why do we value this info so little?

Not happening but we should be able to charge Google or Amazon etc. for the use of our personal data. Want my phone number? $5000, please. Want everything forever? How does $100,000 sound?
I think people find it hard to grasp. Also, there is no tangible immediate problem with sharing your information, but there is an immediate return if you do. So the reason people don't care is that it is not so much an issue of the individual as much as an issue of principle as it pertains to a population, or a country. I understand that people are against regulation but I am of the opinion that we, through our elected governments decide what kind of world we want to live in, and as such our governments must deal with, and regulate data privacy (etc), accordingly. Unfortunately governments seem to be in the pockets of corporations, which is at the very core of why everything is so effed up. To expect any industry to 'self regulate' is delusional. I don't believe in a free market v the government idea, that seems to me just a Trumpian construct of the free market.

  • How to increase your editing options in Photos for macOS by using app extensions

I love the idea of extensions and have the Pixlemator ones and Intensify, but rarely use them. Intensify is good for one click effects, but Photos pretty much does what I need. If not I edit in Photoshop. I'd love to get Affinity Photo, and along with that the extension. It would great if AI did an extension round-up with descriptions and short reviews.
