  • Apple Siri Remote now USB-C, as death knell tolls for Lightning

Looks like apple might be eating crow on this after all, after saying lightening was the last iPhone port. They’re in a damned if you do damned if you don’t situation right now; usb-c makes sense, especially with government regulation overreach, but I remember people were completely freaking out when they switched to the lightening port, to a strange degree.

I’m looking forward to the day when we get a slimmer, sleeker phone that’s fully wireless.
Apple never said this. Go back and rewatch the keynote where they introduced it. They said Lightning was the connector for the next decade. It’s been a decade since it was released. Sounds to me like it’s being replaced right on schedule.

  • Arizona is first state to launch drivers' license in Apple Wallet

I am curious how the photo of the individual is displayed. Working in the service industry, checking IDs is a hassle because of a lot of fakes. This would help prevent any of that, so long as the individual shows you opening Apple Wallet and it's not a Photoshop job.
Teenagers everywhere will be jail breaking their phones to load fake IDs into the Wallet app. 😆

  • Amazon closing all of its brick-and-mortar bookstores and '4-Star' locations

Does this include Amazon Go stores? The article doesn’t make it clear if those are included.

Edit: found another article and it says Go stores are not included in the closings. In fact they are going to continue to open more Go stores.

  • Intel to build $20 billion chip factory in Ohio

FYI: this is happening in part because $52 billion in federal support for the chip industry was passed by Congress and signed into law. Intel will be getting a grant from the U.S. government as part of the funding.

Plus a billion dollars from the state of Ohio.
So who exactly is building this plant?

But, that's OK.   We need to invest in ourselves, our own country, if we want to keep up.   The last 3 decades of austerity have caused us to fall behind in many areas -- not just chips.

It's a wise use of money:   That $52billion came from not having to throw away a billion dollars a week in Afghanistan.  What did that buy us ?

This is more than OK. It’s absolutely necessary. The Chinese government does not even think twice about pumping money into strategic industries like this.
You know why? It is not to compete with US. China spend more importing chips than importing crude oil. This is it largest import item.
The reason why isn’t important though. The only things that matters is they’re doing it. American companies can only compete with competitors receiving billions of
dollars in free money for so long.

Not to mention this isn’t the only industry the Chinese government is pumping money into. Clean/renewable energy is another one.
This is nonsense. Blaming Chinese for everything. US government has been pumping money into business since the beginning. Why can't China do it? There are countless examples. Tesla is most notable.
Who said China can’t? I’m just saying the US needs to match it to stay competitive.
