  • Steve Jobs predicted the Mac's move from Intel to ARM processors

What will ARM solve? Well... it won't fix the lack of hardware innovation (remove Magsafe, add TouchBar) or keyboard problems. It might make battery life better but you could do the same by making Retina an option. Apple should fix their computers and push OS X forward (or make a new OS).
The more pertinent question is "what 'won't" moving to ARM solve?"   The vast revenue/profit generated by Apple is based on ARM designs.  Arm won't solve Windows compatibility but that's no longer a driving issue for the masses which is why VMware and Parallels haven't had much movement on their products.  The Web is driving modern day computing and the typical home doesn't need a lot of horsepower at home provided they aren't heavily into content creation.

I think a bigger problem is the economics of min computers.  ARM benefits Apple in ways that Apple doesn't want.  The form factor for computers today are quite narrow.  You have Intel and Nuc, Mac mini and other Mini-ITX but extremely small and capable computing has largely failed.  Apple doesn't like making things that don't generate good Revenue/Profit so I doubt they'd leverage it very much but I see the power in computing being many small computers that cluster well forming a larger fluid system.

I know...science fiction.  One can dream

  • ecobee venturing into indoor security cameras, could add Apple's HomeKit

Ecobee should hurry because I'm already waiting for an Apple camera based on the fact that Apple bought the patents from a defunct camera company: https://appleinsider.com/articles/19/03/04/apple-buys-patent-portfolio-from-defunct-home-security-camera-maker-lighthouse
They could do AMAZING things with this IP

Ecobee’s service has been very poor lately. Their network has been down a lot in the past few weeks which prevents you from accessing your thermostat. What makes it worse is that the thermostat makes you think there is a problem with your hardware and not that it cannot connect to ecobee. Plus, whatever updates have been going on has made the auto mode more of an inconvenience because it won’t let you set a range of temps that is only around 5 degrees. It will either make the temp colder or hotter. That doesn’t play well here in the Southwest.
Thinking about ditching smart thermostats personally.   The job is to manage my home's heating and cooling system.  Without a connection to the cloud the system should be as graceful as a non connected thermostat.
