Apple HomeKit seen 'gaining traction' in smarthome accessories towards 2023
maciekskontakt said:HomeKit will never win with Amazon Alexa solution unless Apple will start developing/enabling it for Android as well. Android is majority of devices on the market around the world and that will not change to Apple advantage. I would suggest stop locking ecosystem and at least enable major development on alternative platforms. Mark my words and see what happens in 2025.
There's not going to be any winners here. No one company is going to own the home. HomeKit is an abstraction layer not a protocol. It's designed to sit atop underlaying protocols like Wifi or Bluetooth and allow single app control of devices that support multiple protocols. HomeKit then has hooks into the system to enable support from Siri etc. It makes no sense to attempt to take it to another platform.
It's easy to see where we're going here. Most of the large companies are members of the Thread Group. They are actively working on software and hardware enabling IEEE standard 802.15.4 low power IP networking. This in conjunction with the vast channel improvements of Wifi 6 (via OFDMA) is going to enable strong encryption, low power IP addressable local and cloud access protocols that will support legacy protocol like Zigbee but give us more flexibility and integration into hardware.
Look at this list of partners. https://www.threadgroup.org/thread-group#OurMembers
I already know where these companies are going. No one gives two shats about Amazon or Google or Apple as they're just cogs in the wheel, the power of a network is in stability, encryption/security and interoperability.

Apple announces Apple TV+ service with Apple's unique programming, coming this Fall

Honestly the Apple Credit Card was the most exciting announcement. The rest of the stuff is stuff looks standard fare B List Actors and Directors.
Probably just save my money and watch it grow in the Apple Wallet app.
D
1. User generated content that is curated in the beginning until a base level of quality production and content can be established.
2. Ability to use Apple Music audio safely without copyright strikes.
3. Apple Pay Cash support of artists that deliver good products
4. Final Cut Pro, Garage Band and Logic Pro X direct export, Table of Content generation, Subtitles and more.
5. Social features to allow commentary and links to other videos provided they aren't flagged to prevent.
6. Rather than the boring sidebar and columns of thumbnails each person would have many configuration options. Pages could be arranged to highlight some comments, podcasts, picture gallery and more. Each channel would resemble a webpage with some consistent UI elements for navigation and control.
Apple was born at the intersection of liberal arts and computer science. They've lost their way a bit. Apple has always been about pushing the creative envelopes and empowering "us all" not just the large content distributors. -
August expands lineup with new August View doorbell cam
Metriacanthosaurus said:When the hell are we going to get a product that lets you record to local NAS?
Damn these companies and their cloud subscriptions for every little thing. I don’t want to pay them to store my doorbell videos, and I don’t want them to have access to that footage period. I swear the only reason they even make these products at all is to try and sell the cloud storage.
