Home automation company Wink under fire for surprise subscription mandate [u]
I can't imagine that anyone at Wink *wanted* to do this. It must have been a pretty grim series of meetings. They know they will lose many future customers -maybe most of them. They know that they will be generating enormous ill-will with their existing customers. But I suspect they looked at the numbers and saw that if they didn't do this, it would all be a moot point. They would go out of business, and no one would have any level of service. It can't have been an easy decision.

How many years did you get out of your soon to obsolete one?
I have 2 AppleTV 3s and 2 AppleTV 4ks. I enjoy HBO on all of them. -

Ring's app caught spying on users, sharing data with third-parties
My company obsesses over privacy issues. We do annual code audits, we do regular mandatory individual and group training, we consider it at every step of the development process. How is it people at these companies just don't seem to care? Not even slightly. The only effort they make is to encrypt the data they should not be taking in the first place. That could be interpreted as an attempt to hide what they are doing. It probably isn't, but it does seem like a possibility.

AccountEdge abandons Catalina compatibility, customers looking for alternatives
I have been using MYOB, the predecessor to AccountEdge, in a Mac OS 10.6 VM for nearly a decade. It has worked perfectly for me, and I can update the tax tables by hand, which is why I never upgraded to AccountEdge. It is almost certainly possible and quite easy to run AccountEdge out of a VM, but the problem will be the inability to update the tax tables.
