  • MagSafe may be expanding beyond Mac and iPhone to the iPad

Funny, I was just thinking about a week ago that they should do something like this for iPhones. The glass backs and magnets make the device heavier, thicker and more fragile compared to an aluminum (or titanium?) back. I don’t really see the value of wireless charging with my own lifestyle but I want my phone to be as compact, light and durable as possible, so I wish I didn’t have to live with the drawbacks of a feature I’m unlikely to use. And for people who don’t care about weight and thickness but want wireless charging, they can use a case. But maybe it makes even more sense for iPads, for those who consider wireless charging an essential feature, because the iPhone cameras probably already dictate the thickness as much as anything (although weight and fragility are still an issue), and an iPad-sized glass back would be even worse in all respects than the one on the iPhone.

  • Meta's AR glasses are three years behind Apple Vision Pro

I’d be surprised if Meta were able to catch up in three years, or even get to where Apple appears to be now. One reason that Android phones were able to progress as quickly as they did following the announcement of the iPhone is that the best competitors in the hardware and software sectors were all taking aim, focusing on what they did best: Google/Android with the software, Samsung, HTC and many others with the hardware, some more successfully than others. It still took quite a while to get close to the polish of iPhone, if they ever did, even if they have excelled in some specific areas, of course. Meta obviously has expertise in this area and has been spending a fortune, but few would say they are among the top mobile hardware companies (on par with Apple?), and I’m skeptical that their software chops are so much better than Apple’s that it will make up the difference, despite their experience and R&D budget. And Apple has plenty of resources to keep up the development and innovation if they remain interested.

  • Twitter loses half its ad revenue, still weighed down by debt

    • Elon Musk is under attacked to by Powers To Be.  Elon will find away to get Twitter a net profitable company.  After all, he was forced in to buy Twitter by the court!
Not sure if you’re being sarcastic, but the court only forced him to fulfill the commitment he made, it didn’t force him to commit in the first place.

  • Jony Ive designs $60,000 turntable for Scottish hi-fi pioneers

The funny part is how much it just looks like any other LP12, but maybe they’re trying to make a point with that.

The Lightning connector means you may be able to pick one up cheaply in about 10 weeks when new iPhones are announced.
