  • Apple's intricate Thunderbolt 4 Pro cable design revealed under CT scan

Apple tends to over-engineer everything. There is more computing power in an Apple USB-C power adapter than powered the first moon landing. Those who study practically any Apple laptop or desktop say they use three to four times the number of screws and bolts of any other manufacturer. The simplest dongle, or cable in this case, would be uneconomic for any other company to design and manufacture. Apple may be just a little pricey but by far the best value.

  • Early iPhone 15 tests after overheat-fixing patch don't show any performance losses

They should have never let Scott Forstall go.
That arrogant idiot is the reason that there is no calculator app on iPads. Jobs was horrified by Forstall's lack of aesthetics and had to go as soon as a replacement could be found. A clear example of someone being promoted beyond their abilities.

'Case' or 'no case'? is a more difficult quagmire. If you want maximum performance and minimum weight it is certainly 'no case'. Those more bothered by resale price in a year or two than blazing performance may be tempted to go with a 'case' to preserve the pristine appearance. However, beauty may only be skin-deep but health certainly isn't. Heat ages batteries badly so those 'case' people may find their battery's heath deteriorating prematurely c.f. 'no case' and therefore negatively affecting the resale price.

Perhaps keep it in the original sealed box to maximise resale value?

  • 2014 to 2023: Apple Car has been in the works for almost a decade

What a tale of woe! Hiring, firing, spending, cutbacks, alliances made and broken etc. and for what? To pursue a peculiarly U.S.A. aspect of culture - the automobile.

Cars are on their way out, at least privately-owned cars. First and foremost the focus has to be in reducing the need to travel. Covid was a catalyst for this transition but there is much further to go. Apple Vision will be a nudge in the right direction. There will be a need to distribute goods to people but getting in a car and going to a shop is about the least efficient way of doing it. Already 'department stores' and car-only shopping centres are slowly being replaced by distribution centres full of robot pickers and packers with fleets of combined delivery vehicles. Mass transportation along the lines of hub-spoke with the 'last mile' covered by yes, a shared electric vehicle, walking or cycling. Ultimately, other than for 'reserved occupations', any form of travel will only be for pleasure.

I return to the cultural pretext of even pursuing such an idea. Imagine how a self-driving car would behave when surrounded by a thousand bicycles brushing into it - certain paralysis and a real danger to other road users.

I think in around 20 years you will be able to pick up a self-driving vehicle for nothing - because it won't be legal to use them and the flakey, proprietary technology will have long since ceased to be supported.

  • iPhone 15 Pro Max review: Come for 5x optical zoom, stay for USB-C

To the EU, USB-C is all about charging interoperability. However Apple has implemented USB 3.2 Alt on the Pro's USB-C connector. This means not only using external storage at 10Gbps (75 GB/min) but also driving an external 4k display at 60Hz AND simultaneous charging. Your phone can be your new desktop. This is  a big deal.

  • macOS Sonoma with interactive widgets, Kanban Reminders and more is now available

This appears the least attractive MacOS (or Mac OS) revision ever. Almost all the new features I don't want and the one I wouldn't mind, CentreStage, has being poorly implemented. The idea of predictive text on my Mac takes my soul away.

Apple should focus on simplification not complication. You almost have to learn a new language to understand the current MacOS.
