  • Roof of Chicago's North Michigan Ave. Apple Store resembles MacBook Air lid

Cheesy. Waste of effort and materials for a feature only to be seen in rare circumstances.
You mean by the dozens of skyscrapers surrounding it? Yeah, they'll never see it.

I'm very concerned that Apple is going the way of MicroSoft. "you'll buy our stuff and like it and we don't care what you want"...

the fact that they killed the MacPro line with the horrible trash can Mac and have not refreshed the Pro lineup since then tells me a lot. The new iMacPro is cool, but it's still not what audio/video pros like me really want or need.

my old MacPro 5,1 is the best pc I've ever owned. I would rather they revive that lineup/design if I'm going to pay $5k for one. I want to be able to install my own hard drives, video cards, RAM and other things myself. You can't do that in an iMac.

if they announce a new version of the trash can MacPro, I will be moving to a windows pc that has the requirements I specify.

plus, while I love my iPhone 7+, it's not really helpful to remove the audio jack as I used my iPhone as an instrument in my music. The little adapter sucks and got lost in 2 weeks. They want 48 bucks for a new one. Screw that.

also, why does everything have to be so damn expensive? They have BILLIONS in the bank. How about boosting profits by dropping prices and selling MORE UNITS?
Have you been listening to any of Apple's responses to pros in the past month or so? They have had an iMac Pro and modular Mac Pro in development for the past year but they couldn't tip their hand before WWDC. They also said that some (unclear of the breakdown) of their pros still prefer all-in-one Macs like iMac Pro for pro development. So unless they're lying (unlikely), we can expect a modular Mac Pro sometime in 2018.

I called it a long time ago. It's transportation as a service, delivered by your iPhone. Nobody will own an Apple car.
Except for the people that buy one.

Autonomous transportation services will be a commodity in five years time. Every single company and their mothers are working on it now so why would Apple get into that only? It's no different than the smart phone market. Everyone makes their own phone but how many companies make both the hardware and the software?

Apple will never be content (nor make the margins they are used to) in just making software for any vertical.

  • Growth of Apple's Siri hampered by privacy & departure of key staff - report

Sorry, I don't believe or trust a word from "ex-employees", especially when they're unnamed. Also, even if any of this was true, if they had a shred of class they wouldn't shit talk their former employer or divulge info. This kind of thing is usually motivated by resentment.
This story feels like a 3 year old piece to get clicks immediately after HomePod was announced. The sources are either unnamed or departed Apple over 3 years ago. The privacy issue is mostly in the past and was already addressed by Apple last year using differential privacy algorithms. That doesn't mean Siri does not have a lot of work ahead to get better but so do all voice assistants. They're all fairly bad right now.

  • First 'Planet of the Apps' episode drops tonight, free to watch

    Hotly anticipated?  That's a stretch.
Don't you think all the haters are hotly anticipating their chance to rant and critique Apple? I'm sure half of them already are already written before viewing the first episode.

Here's my review posted on some other tech websites too immediately after viewing last night...

Watched it and it was fine. Like any major network reality tv production values. But some of the rejected app proposals really felt like the show writers made them up to fill in time. Some really stupid ideas.

Also the VC investor part felt like another show tacked on. They didn’t talk enough about the business models so the one chosen felt like they were already picked long before their escalator pitch.

I’ll watch next week just to see how the show works but it doesn’t look like it’s serialized like modern streaming TV so there’s no cliffhangers or storylines to keep me interested.

One cool thing is that every app featured is already on the App Store. It’s a little confusing because it’s not clear how long ago they shot the episodes. I suspect that the reason the show was pushed back from its original release date was not because the show wasn’t quite ready but because the apps aren’t quite ready. The whole show is really just a soft sell for the App Store. Not a terrible thing but then make it worthwhile TV if it’s just one giant commercial.
