  • Smartphone addiction is real, and we all probably need to do something about it

I figure it evens out a bit given that I work half the year out to sea on a ship.. So I am often "de-toxing" for weeks or months at a time without reception lol. I mean, I use my alarm, listen to music and watch the occasional spurt of downloaded YouTube videos underway, but get more solid paper reading time in out there. It's funny after arrival when you look around and see everyone with their phones jammed into their faces... I often joke with my crew by walking around holding my iPhone up to my face like it's a crack pipe and huffing it lol. My iPhone stays in my cabin all day when I'm working, but the GenZ people we're getting lately can't even handle not having it on them without wireless earbuds surgically implanted into both their ear canals.

  • New 13-inch iPad Air will eat into iPad Pro sales

I think an M2 iPad Air will eat into iPad Pro sales, but not because of the 12.9 inch model. Well ok that will be a bit. The main reason is price. The difference in the 11 inch models is the Air is about 25% less for pretty much the same capability.

btw, does anyone see the discontinuity in the iPad Air being heavier than the iPad Pro?
Haha wow, I honestly didn't even think of that... Wow Apple lol.

  • Flagship iPad head-to-head -- M4 iPad Pro vs M2 iPad Pro compared

A big reason why I’m upgrading is for the camera placement. I never use my iPad in portrait mode and my hand sometimes gets in the way of FaceID which I find frustrating. The lighter and thinner aspect is also nice. I probably won’t notice any difference in the processor.
Absolutely! Like 80% of the time I have my finger right on top of the FaceID camera constantly trying to sign into stuff when web browsing it's so irritating lol. I kinda wish they'd just stick a TouchID power button on to the Pro line of iPads. I got super used to the iPad mini's TouchID button regardless of the orientation held (though realistically was always landscape also because of the gnarly "jelly scroll" lol).

Don't get me wrong, FaceID on the iPhone is fantastic but I never hold it in a manner that obstructs the camera/sensors and it's so natural for unlocking the device whenever you pick it up. For iPad, not as much. Also looking forward to less awkward FaceTime video in the future too, without it looking like I have a 1000 yard stare lol.

  • Ultra Retina XDR OLED screens in iPad Pro are just the latest evolution of Apple's flagshi...

Nano texture is going to be a no for me even though I’ll use it in bright settings.

While technically it helps minimize reflections, it just looks poor compared to a regular surface. Mac retina screens really pop. Nano texture really degrades that very noticeably. The few folks I know who opted for nano texture were disappointed, opting to exchange, sell. Be sure you see one in person before paying an extra 100 on something you’d wish you didn’t have. It’s not a small difference. It’s a big deal.
Thanks for this. Seems like great advice. I haven't seen a nano screen in person, but was wondering if it might have the exact issue you describe. And by the way, Apple won't just sell you the nano screen option for an extra $100. Nope! It's only available to those ordering either a 1TB or 2 TB model, which will cost hundreds more. It's like wanting a heated steering wheel in your new car and finding out it's only available with the $5,000 "Interior Comfort Package."
And realistically, most people thinking they want a less reflective display would be better suited to install a matte aftermarket screen protector to try it out.

The new Air looks like the perfect replacement for my 11” iPad Pro 2nd generation with its cracked screen. But I will look into the 11” iPad Pro with that OLED display.
Yes, by all means, just "look into it,"lol. You know how this will end, right? Just get your wallet ready.
Flipping iPhone's OLED screen then the MacBook Pro's MiniLED Screen have spoiled my face... Staring into my iPad Pro watching YouTube Videos and TV Series in glowing gray bloom despair for years lol... I've been saying as soon as Apple dumped either of these screen technologies into their 11" model I'm throwing my cash at them haha. Well, today was the day! Ya got me Apple! Are you happy now?! Would absolutely prefer the mini w/ and OLED display, but I'll stick with 11" for the eye candy I suppose!
