  • Ultra Retina XDR OLED screens in iPad Pro are just the latest evolution of Apple's flagshi...

I’m really surprised that the new Apple Pencil Pro is being supported by the Air as well! You’d think that’s a way to further differentiate the Pro from the Air, a motivation to push people to the Pro. But this is a very consumer friendly move - I applaud Apple for this. The new Air looks like the perfect replacement for my 11” iPad Pro 2nd generation with its cracked screen. But I will look into the 11” iPad Pro with that OLED display.
It seems to me Apple is planning to have the new iPad Pro and Air lines compatible with the  Pencil USB-C (Basic) and  Pencil Pro (Advanced) as two separate options now and I imagine when the iPad mini is refreshed (end of this year or next year?) they'll put the landscape FaceTime camera w/ update charging module into it as well to match  Pencil compatibility.

That just leaves the entry level iPad 10th Gen, which already works with the  Pencil USB-C, that they could potentially add-in the required wireless charging module to support the  Pencil Pro - Or not and just leave it as is for the time being as the basic model.

Now that the iPad 9th Gen has been officially retired by Apple, once they update the mini next all of their current lines of iPads will work with the two newer  Pencil options. And presumable Apple will continue selling their remaining stock of 1st and 2nd Gen  Pencils to support customers with older iPads for some time before eventually phasing them out entirely.

  • New Apple aluminum Magic Keyboard introduces backlit keys & function bar

Nice they got rid of more of that damage-prone vinyl-wrapped cardboard stuff, added the function keys (much needed!) and a better angle for the iPad too. Seriously, the last Magic Keyboard was a no-go for me because I kept scraping my fingers under the iPad trying to type numbers constantly and was driving me nuts lol.

All that being said, with this new keyboard and iPad Pro you could basically have the first OLED-screened MacBook (kind of lol). I can't wait til next Wednesday to get mine and am definitely holding on to my M2 MacBook Pro for it's inevitable (God I hope) OLED screen upgrade!

  • Apple wants to make grooved keys to stop nasty finger oil transfer to MacBook Pro screens

They should just make the darned things the 0.1mm thicker and increase the clearance between the closed screen and top case.

My wife’s 13” M2 MacBook Air got a nick in the screen coating the first week from some minute piece of dust trapped between the top case and screen right dead center. She has AppleCare, but living with it as long as it doesn’t bother her to save the deductible (I’m super anal, I’d have sent it in already lol).

My own M2 MacBook Pro has its screen cleaned on the regular as I cannot stand any smudges or dust on it when I’m looking at it all day. I keep getting oil smudges across the top 3” middle of my panel - that’s not even from the keyboard, but the trackpad? I do occasionally get the keyboard-shaped smudges at the bottom though, and I keep my machine very clean.

  • Apple calls 128GB 'lots of storage' in new iPhone 15 ad

People forget that if you store photos in iCloud you have to still keep them on the phone. If you delete them they’ll also delete from iCloud. I have always purchased the 256 GB phone and only recently have I found it going above half-full. I have Apple One for the family so its 2 TB of storage means no-one will lose their photos. If the family helps pay it’s worth it.
That is actually not the case. If you are using iCloud to backup your photos, they will ALL be stored in the cloud. However, what your iPhone does is up to you. iPhones typically come with the "Optimize iPhone Storage" option turned on. This means by default, if you start running low on local storage, your iPhone will start wiping photos and videos off your device to free up space... When you go into the Photos app you will still see all your content, but when you tap on older photos/videos it will stream them off the cloud using the internet. If you don't have internet access and try this, you will get an error on videos and you will only see the tiny thumbnail (blown up to fullscreen, so lossy looking) until your internet connection is restored. If you disable the "Optimize iPhone Storage" by choosing "Download and Keep Originals" then yes, 100% of your library is kept on your iPhone and if you delete anything it deletes the corresponding file in the cloud.

This is essentially how it works on a MacBook and iPad as well with infrequently used apps and files if you leave it setup this way. If one paid for iCloud storage and routinely had a decent internet connection you would not even realize this is happening. I work on cargo ships out to see... So I keep optimization disabled on all my Apple devices so I can view my files and photos when offline.
