Personally, I couldn't use a Mac without TotalFinder.
    Well.. I could but I wouldn't want to    :D

TotalFinder is excellent - dual panes, the visor thingy so you can bring finder up with a double press of the option key, it had Command-x and paste of files and folders yonks ago, before Apple decided Adults could be trusted to wield such awesome power  ;)    and best of all it works with Finder, so much preferred to Pathfinder and the others.

Better Touch Tool too if you want to get the most out of your trackpad and/or your touch bar etc.
Did you turn off the SIP, system integrity protection?

    Yes. Yes, I did.
Forgot about that - the only drawback/issue with it, although it's easy enough to do.

  • Sonos AirPlay 2-compatible Amp brings wireless audio to existing speakers

    HomePod is a better choice.
I'm not sure you understand who this product is for.

Many people have vastly superior sound systems than Apple Homepods who would like to be able to stream to them easily and to multi rooms if they desire.
Sonos has always been the best choice for this...

I've been using a Sonos Connect for... not sure, well over a decade. It's the non amplifier version, as I use it via optical to connect to my hi-fi system which has its own amplification - I imagine Sonos will also produce an updated Connect as well as the Connect Amp detailed above.

  • The best alternatives to Apple's discontinued AirPort routers

    Synology RT-2600ac

A really nice touch is VPN Plus allows RT2600ac to serve as a powerful VPN server, which can give you even more secure access.
How does this work? Can I connect it to a VPN service which I pay for so that I don't have to run the VPN on connected devices, thereby freeing up the number of VPN connections I'm making with the service?

Many routers will advertise vpn server ability but what you seek is specifically a router that has VPN CLIENT capability - not so common!

The Asus DOES allow this - I have this model (most Asus routers are also vpn client capable, at least the mid to high level ones), and it also receives frequent firmware updates and works very well. So, the Asus can indeed be setup to connect to a paid (or free) VPN Server of your choice using all the usual protocols (PPTP, OpenVpn etc etc) and so any device using that wifi connection will go through that VPN server.

A quick look at Synology website seems to hint it also supports vpn client, but make sure first!
The Synology also can create a NAS drive with external drives connected - so similair to a Synology NAS, but probably not quite so powerful - the Syno software is great (I have a separate Synology NAS drive)... seems odd this rather major advantage isn't even mentioned in this appleinsider article, but hey ho...

"the Good The RT2600 has long range, fast Wi-Fi speed and plenty of features. The routercan host more than one broadband connection, and also works as a robust network storage server when coupled with an external hard drive. It also includes state of the art firmware that delivers a stellar set of extra .."

  • Rumor: Apple to launch AirPower and AirPods wireless charging case in March

Why would you even be waiting for the 'airpower'?

Got a Triple QI charging pad from Ikea here in Thailand - works great and has a USB port for charging a non-qi device also.

It's $60 in the USA it seems....

ps they also do bedside lamps or tables with built in QI charger.
