  • Future MacBook Pro could get force sensitive 3D Touch screen

I found the TouchBar almost useless and don't mourn its demise. Please don't try to give me a full touch-screen display on my MacBook: I'm not yet past all the things that Apple used to say about having to stretch over the keyboard to get to the display and am much happier with 1/2 hands on the keyboard (with 1 sometimes on trackpad or mouse).

And I hate finger marks on my display!

  • Apple's live events are probably a thing of the past, and that's sad

There's a difference between theatre and cinema. I value the live events because they are 'of the moment' and it's good to see the real (not filmed) people interacting with an audience, not just speaking their script. It's not about hoping for failure, it's a shared experience and laughing together at adversity is also fine. Sitting here across the pond, I also think the live presentation/live audience is better to watch; why would I want to want a cinema audience watch a film?

I'm also disappointed because a personal trip to WWDC to watch a live keynote is on my bucket list. Perhaps now never to be.

  • Apple is shutting down the really old 'My Photo Stream' on July 26

I also like Photo Stream, I've been using it since Apple introduced it. I take a lot of 'disposable' pictures on my iPhone so am happy to just extract those that are keepers. My main photo library lives on my Mac so I don't have any issues with resolution (the article is a little misleading on this, Photo Stream on Mac contains full res photos - see this page).

iCloud Photo Library is no alternative to Photo Stream, it's a different beast. Photo Stream automatically discards the photos you don't choose to keep*, doesn't use your iCloud storage allowance and is free. My photo library is curated, includes photos from my 'proper' camera and lives on external HDs with no subscription fee.

A certain Steve Jobs was also a Photo Stream fan. He described it during the introduction of iCloud as "maybe my favourite [feature]". This video at about 1:36:02.

*I'm not a good enough photographer to want to keep anything like all my pictures, even those from my ILC let alone my iPhone. I suspect many others are in the same category.

  • Ford will stick with CarPlay as GM exits for Google tech

"In terms of content, we kind of lost that battle 10 years ago," Farley said. "So like get real with it, because you're not going to make a ton of money on content inside the vehicle."
There's someone that understands their market. Not only are the content services well established, there's the whole continuity of experience between what you're listening to (or whatever) as you walk to/from the vehicle and what you have inside. "The same" is surely the best answer.

On a similar consistency argument, I am wary of the idea of CarPlay providing the vehicle-related displays. Quite apart from the safety angle (they mustn't just go away), the vehicle manufacturer is likely to produce the best match to the rest of the vehicle's ergonomics.
