  • Apple releases AirTag firmware update 2.0.36

Re: How much money you save with Apple One bundles in Fall 2022
Since comments are disabled, I'll leave mine here. Sites like Target currently (or at least recently) have free deals for all the services for 2 to 4 months depending on the service. So do yourself a favor and save 100% of the cost instead. Chances are by the time you get to the end of your free trial you will have stopped using most of them, so it's easy enough to cancel before paying a dime.

  • Biggest Apple News+ magazines may be having a tough time

I'm in the camp of "access to many magazines sounds cool", but when I try to read one I wind up thinking "yeah this is why I never read magazines".

In other words, I like the idea of access to magazine content, but when the paper version is digitized, you wind up with all the problems magazines always had (too many ads, content split across multiple columns / pages, etc.) with few gains of the digital format. It seems like they would need to go through a completely separate and unique design process in order to produce a true "digital magazine" which was visually more interesting than your typical news article, but less cumbersome than traditional layouts.

  • China lifts lockdown on Foxconn's iPhone plant in Zhengzhou

Re: "Senator attacks Apple's 'unconscionable' Chinese policy, demands answers"
I find it ironic that an article all about "free speech" does not have comments enabled.

  • AirTag crucial to retrieving runaway dog in Florida

Apart fom stalking (which is unacceptable), the only reason Apple downplays the "find your pet or kid" use of AirTags is to avoid liability. That way, people can't come back at them when someone never comes home, despite attaching an airtag to their collar or backpack, whatever the case may be. But also, it might be Apple does not wish to normalize, or be seen as overtly normalizing, tracking devices for every living creature. (Although cellphones essentially serve this purpose for people already.)
