  • How Google's lack of human curation spreads and monetizes fake news

Typical DED, trying to claim Sweden doesn't have issues.

Him writing an article about fake news is the ultimate irony.
Where does he claim "Sweden doesn't have issues"?

  • Battery tech suitable for future iPhone promises 3x the power density, full charge in minu...

Solid Battery has been around for a VERY long time. What we keep hearing about these breakthrough are ways to make it cheaper. But it is still FAR from our normal Li-Ion Battery prices. Existing Battery cost less then $10 in BOM, a similar size Solid Battery would have cost more then $300 even when manufactured at scale.

The news and press didn't mention the cost saving. But even it is 50% cheaper, it would still be $150, on a cost per energy, ( Similar Li-Ion battery would be less then $30 ) it would still be 5x more expensive. And if you calculate the Margin in the end product, you will likely have to pay $300+ more for a phone with this tech inside.

I am no sure if consumer would spend $300 more for a Phone with 3x larger capacity at the same size.
This isn't quite the same as existing solid battery tech, and it appears to have a much simpler and less costly manufacturing process. The study is at the link in the story, and is free if you have academic credentials.
The last sentence of the abstract says: "The result is a safe, low-cost, lithium or sodium rechargeable battery of high energy density and long cycle life."

I don't think they would say that if ksec's double-the-cost post were correct.

Can you please post this in English so people can actually read and understand this?
Geez, you could see it as an opportunity to learn some German. Or just accept that you can't bend the world to suit your every American whim.

  • Apple board member Al Gore sells $29.5M of company stock

As a long time shareholder I'm sure glad to see my shares being diluted by this guy. What has he done for the company?  You'd a thought he would have used his valuable political pull to open up repatriation or something...looks like Trump might be giving us that free of charge.  And who made this jetsetter the environmental expert?  I'm sure his 2¢ on the matter don't add up to half of one.
I agree. If Apple wants to have itself marginally insulated from getting shafted in Washington, they need to face the music and get away from their one-sided political views. About half of the US disagrees with the progressive political views of their board. It's unwise to be tunnel visioned.
Sorry, but Apple will never adopt right-winger views just to appease old white guys, or under some misguided notion that all opinions are equal. They aren't. Some are most definitely better than others.
Thanks for your racist opinion, but it's not about adopting "right-winger" views, it's about depoliticizing Apple. Their job is to make "insanely great" products, not lecture Americans about how wrong they are for holding completely valid opposing views.
The job of Apple's board and executives is to influence government policy makers, including influencing public opinion, to make the business environment friendly for Apple's global operations.

This would include the basic rights of their diverse employees, as well as the free travel of intellectual talent that Apple must recruit from around the world, not to mention the unfettered trade in parts and assemblies from technologies not available in the US for two generations now, such as one of the most critical elements, the displays, and including most of the production knowledge in electronics and fine mechanisms.

Opposing Apple and other global tech companies is the cabal of retrograde right-wing billionaire business owners such as Robert and Rebekah Mercer, Rupert Murdoch, and the Koch brothers, who have funded a savage anti-global, national socialist-inspired campaign of propaganda, lies and fake news to get this new president elected, in order to repress the new global enterprises and make them servants of nationalism — in other words, to militarize or weaponize them in returning America back to a fortress such as existed in the 1950s.

To sum up, Apple and the other tech firms have to defensively oppose the organized takeover orchestrated by the radical billionaire nationalists.

What exactly has Apple Gore done for Apple? What does he bring to the company? Nothing, that's what.
Read the thread, use your head. Apple's renewable energy policy, possibly the best in the US if not the world. This is a huge part of their strategy for global sustainability for decades to come.
