  • Apple issues Safari 11 update for macOS Sierra & OS X El Capitan

CNN lost me to AutoPlay. Finally came back after stopping them. They should learn.  I gave up on them until I could prevent it.

  • Apple's online store offline ahead of iPhone 8, Apple Watch Series 3, Apple TV 4K preorder...

While not priced at nearly the same oxygen-removing levels as the $159 EarPods, the $269 Apple Watch or the $329 2017 iPad, it is the first time (iirc) that Apple has continued to sell an iPhone two generations back--three generations if you include the X.

Say what you will about the AirPods. Thought they were silly until I read user reviews, tried them, bought them. Perhaps the best $159 I ever spent with Apple. Certainly the best bluetooth headset experience I have had, and the only ones I have been happy to have purchased. No regrets here.

  • US & EU decide against banning phones & tablets on flights from Europe

FYI: Headline says one thing, ("phones & tablets") and article another ("devices like Apple iPads and MacBooks") so I have to go now to other sites to be sure I know what's what.

  • Apple to forge 'iPhone 8' chassis from stainless steel, report says

    True or not,

Oh Apple, please stop with the thinness.  Yes, it's the bragging point of the universe, but we are there at the great paradise of thinness in laptop and phone and pad. Headphone jack removal meant I cannot buy any new iPhones (I am on my phone all day for work) so the thinning of the phone lost one sale, and likely I have to hold onto my 6s forever.  At this wonderful current thinness (before 7 and Touchbar) most folks add cases anyway.  Make the phone much thinner and I will cut myself on it.  :-)  Battery life and function are at this stage far far far far more important to me and most others than the bragging rights of the thinnest out there.  Yes yes, Steve Jobs pulled the Air out of a paper envelope and that was impressive.  Even he would have known not to carry this on forever.  Now the latest laptop is missing so much many might buy something from OWC that adds back thickness and function.  Trouble is they also had to first pay the super high premium price for the thinning of the laptop.  Oh, and a case with a headphone jack.  Yep, the same there too.  There comes a point where you have arrived, but even Apple failed to notice that.  Add AR.  Increase battery life to the moon. But stop before you go anorexic.  Please.  That also takes courage.

(The trick would have been to addict everyone to the AirPods and then, after a few Generations of AirPod improvement, THEN ditch the headphone jack).

  • Too soon? Apple's new iPhone 7 ruffles feathers with Lightning audio, Home button changes

You didn't mention charging while listening.

Yeah, that's a monster deal breaker, for like about 1:1,000,000 people.  Seriously, how often are you walking around, listening to youriPhone while its plugged into a charger?
Not walking around.  I use my iPhone 6plus as a work phone.  Work calls are directed to it, so I have it on a charging stand with a headset plugged in all day.  Bluetooth not yet ideal for me, and batteries not lasting enough.  The phone can't go without the charge that long and be ready when I need it late day.  Some workdays last 8am to 8pm and longer.  So for now I stick with what I have, and specifically that missing jack is why I can't even consider it.  There will be cases and stands with headphone jacks I am sure, and the measly iPhone dock works but is not sturdy enough for me.  So long term, no, but too many of you are judging from your angle, your own use patterns.  Me, I don't see that the phones need to be quite so slim, but I know beefing it up to have the jack and a larger battery, that getting larger or thicker is never an option for any phone maker.  Anyway, when enough options to use an iPhone 7 are out so I can use it as I do today, well, I will be considering it.
