  • Cook, other Apple execs open up on company's future in extensive '60 Minutes' feature

    Some questions:

Is Apple required to bring that money home to the US?

If Apple could get the same tax rate and benefits in the US that they get in Ireland... would Apple start keeping all their money in the US?

Does anyone wonder why so many companies set up shop in Ireland in the first place?

To be fair, Apple has had and continues to have substantial operations in Ireland, some 5000 employees last I heard, including an iMac assembly line.
Sure... but I hear Ireland is a known tax haven.  Apple is there for that reason, right?  They didn't just decide to build an office there because of the scenery.  And I know... Ireland is beautiful.

My question is... why can't the US make the same deals that Ireland makes?  Wouldn't all these criticisms go away?

  • Nearly one-third of all photos uploaded to Flickr in 2015 were taken on an iPhone

I hear Flickr has over 100 million users... but I don't know a single person who uses it.  I listen to podcasts where some guests talk about using Flickr... but I don't know any actual personal friends and acquaintances who use Flickr.

I had a Flickr account in 2005... but it was kinda clunky to share photos.  You'd have to paste a link into an email or AIM message. So I never used it.

Then Facebook happened.  People started joining Facebook for a variety of reasons... and they also got built-in photo sharing.  It made much more sense to share photos on Facebook where people were already.

Perhaps a more relevant study is the most popular cameras on Facebook.... that seems to be where people are sharing photos.

300 million photos are uploaded to Facebook every day.... compared to 1 million a day on Flickr.

Isn't the home screen a little bit odd with just the row of icons?
    I hear this a lot.

How long do people spend staring at the home screen?

hope they continue to grow.... BUT... even if sales were to stabilize... they would continue to profit at an unheard of rate...
    Exactly.

There will be a time when iPhone sales in one quarter fail to surpass sales in the same quarter in the previous year.

No company can grow sales forever.  I know this... and I'm sure the fine folks at Apple know this too.

The good thing is... Apple will still be selling around 200 million iPhones a year... and making a ton of profit from each one.

Meanwhile... other companies can barely sell 20 million phones a year... and they LOSE money.

So why are people worried about Apple?
