Probable 'iPhone SE 2' exposed by European regulatory agency
Eric_WVGG said:There are currently 3 iPhone SE SKUs ("US", "Sprint", "China Mobile"), but 7 new iOS SKUs.
iPad Pro running A9X processors were released in June 2017, this would be exactly the right time to release A10X models.
overdue for update: iPod Touch, iPad Mini (both last updated 2015, A8 processors)
3 iPhone SE-2s, iPad Pro 12" and 10", iPod Touch, iPad Mini == 7 SKUs.
7 new iOS devices models just seems like a lot. Maybe we get 2 versions of the SE? One that looks the same as the current with spec bump and a new design model with face ID? Idk. Hard to believe the iPhone line-up could get even larger.
You think the iPod and iPad mini will get a refresh? Couldn’t hurt, I suppose. -
Apple considers cheaper HomePod in face of lackluster sales
I think my fav argument about the HomePod is that it is too expensive. Classic. Also, those calling HP a failure bc they have a billion ios users. How many gmail accts and Android users are out there? Amazon accts? The entire smart speaker market is a flop based on that logic.
How many Google Home will be sold this year? How many are attached to the purchase of a dishwasher or washer/dryer or a free with a smartphone? Echo dot sales were rampant over the holidays been dead quiet on reports since... hmmm maybe sales in Jan/Feb/March quarter are less... not that odd is it?
These comment sections bc of day-to-day rumours make things like voice assistants seem way more important in todays market then they actually are. We are a few years away yet. All players in this space have time to improve.

Apple considers cheaper HomePod in face of lackluster sales
I searched voice assistant speaker sales for 2017 and the number seems to be 24-27million units worldwide.
If Apple sells the reported 2.5m HomePods and the voice assistant market grows to ~40m sales (I can make things up like analysts do) then Apple has grabbed 6.25% market share while selling to only 3 countries, limited features, no 3rd party apps, no ports/bluetooth, little to no promotion and primarily promoting it as a high quality speaker.
And that 6.25% market share will prob grab the majority of the smart speaker profits.

Wish List: 14 new HomeKit features we want to see from Apple
dlord said:I would love to see new features but I would also like to see some fixes: I would like to see Apple add the ability to establish a specific device as the Master of your HomeKit configuration. I find that once you have a very large setup with multiple users synchronizing the accessories, scenes, and schedules either takes forever or revert. For example, if I add an accessory with my iPad my iPhone may take days or sometimes never see the new accessory. Additional, it has taken days for the new accessories to show up on my wife's devices. My wife's current Home App is not up to date with what I see. On some rare occasions the newly added accessory disappears and does not return. Secondly, also add the ability to explicitly specify which Apple TV is the primary for remote sharing and bluetooth. I have multiple Apple TVs that are scattered throughout my house. I recently installed the Yale bluetooth lock at my front door. I have found that HomeKit will randomly select the Apple TV to act as a bluetooth bridge. On occasion, HomeKit will select an Apple TV that is more than 30ft from my front door or between several walls and my lock becomes unreachable. The only way to fix the problem it to go to the selected Apple TV and disconnect from HomeKit and reconnect, then go to the Apple TV that I wish to use as a bluetooth extender, disconnect and reconnect. After a few minutes HomeKit uses that newly select Apple TV for remote access and bluetooth communications. I find that I have to go through this exercise every few days or after I have to restarted my wifi. Lastly, there is something that does not work properly with HomeKit setups with more than 150+ devices. I think some of my sync problems may also be related to the number of devices. After, I got past 100 I noticed it takes longer and longer to add new accessories, scenes, and schedules. I notices that it affects the timeliness of the notifications and randomly causes devices to become unresponsive. The devices are not truly unresponsive and if I press and hold the device (force touch) it is like it reaches out and updates the status immediately or if I swipe between rooms it updates the status of unresponsive devices. It behave as thought the database/config file that hold the HomeKit setting has reached some sort of size limit and only the most recent update make it into the settings. If I remove devices and scale back the number of registered accessories the behavior returns to normal. If they fixed these things I would be so so happy.
You have 150+ accessories? That sounds both impressive and expensive -
Our biggest gripes with Apple's 2018 iPad
photoeditor said:Some of these things are value-engineering, but the non-laminated display in my view is a bad mistake by Apple, heavily affecting the ergonomics with pencil, touch and even viewing for not much benefit in profit. There was a time when 10 or 15 percent profit margins were regarded as exceptional and when Apple is trying to push things north of 50 with certain items they're really pushing their luck. When you consider what they're going up against in the education market it's kind of short-sighted.
