Apple iPhone has 3D Touch. This is would allow Apple to make the volume 3D Touch based control. As well as possibly the vibrator control above the volume.
With regards to the edge to edge bezeless screen.  I have a 4.7" iPhone and I don't ever inadvertently touch my screen.  

Once this foldable tech pans out. Apple will apply it to the Apple Watch. Imagine fitting a screen into a watch 3 or 4x the size of the actual watch ?

The real question is... what is theil investing in that he thinks will replace the iPhone 

I think Apples focus is on AR more so than VR.  AR is the next step. In "evolution"  driving directions communicated via your windshield.  You walk or drive and Starbucks shows you which Of your friends are inside or what specials they have available. AR is essentially what's already happening with your smartphone. Except its eliminated the need to stare at a phone to achieve it.  AR combined with the ability to interact via gestures is the future of communications.  It's where the smartphone is heading.   

There is a simple explanation why this app was yanked. This company doesn't have the rights to sell this app. They haven't veen granted permission to associate themselves with the product.  In some ways it can be seen as copyright infringement
