  • First Alert debuts Onelink Safe & Sound smoke alarm/speaker with HomeKit, AirPlay 2 suppor...

Since smoke detectors typically have a 10 year expiration date... I assume with a $249 price tag, there is some modular way to replace the smoke detector portion of the device without having to throw away the entire thing?
How many 10+ year-old wireless speakers and voice assistants do you still have in operation?

New and improved technology will typically drive a person to replace a device before a decade.

I have a Sony "smart" TV that I purchased in 2012. Most of the "smart" features still work, but the improved speed, picture quality, energy efficiency, and size of newer TVs will prompt me to replace it long before the hardware ceases to function.

  • Apple Music chief Jimmy Iovine expected to leave company in August

Good riddance. all this guy ever was is a talker.
I agree 100%. I remember simpler days at Apple where iTunes properly managed my music library. I could easily find a song, preview it, and buy it. It was easy to sync to my devices.

Then, I subscribed to iTunes Match which resulted in duplicates, wrong metadata, and even some lost songs that are difficult or impossible to replace. I unsubscribed and tried to turn all that junk off, but remnants still haunt me to this day.

Then, Iovine comes along. Operational logic and layouts began to change faster than I could keep up. Basic features such as the ability to add a song heard on an Apple Radio station to my wish list or immediate purchase disappeared as Apple did everything they could to force me to use the cloud and pay for a perpetual subscription to contain my music. I can no longer review my Apple Radio history to find songs to purchase.

I guess I'm getting old. *le sigh* Time for a walk-in bathtub, a LifeAlert, a HurryCane, and a Jitterbug phone.

  • TiVo's Next-Gen Platform aims to help cable TV providers stream to Apple TV, iPhone, iPad

When the dust settles and the transition is complete, we'll be paying as much or more for internet and live/on-demand programming than we ever did for a cable TV and internet subscription. The cable companies are already adapting to ensure they don't lose revenue. I'm already paying almost as much for internet alone as what I was paying for internet and television just a few years ago.

  • Apple apologizes for iPhone slowdown controversy, will reduce out-of-warranty battery repl...

People: "Apple, you're slowing down my phone without telling me!"

HTC and Motorola: "We don't slow down our phones!"

Apple: "We slow down our phones so they don't shut down while you're trying to call 911, but since that bothers some of you we'll give everyone a 60% discount on a new battery and the ability to see your battery's health."

People: "Thank you, Apple. That's why we love you."

    HTC and Motorola: "Oh. Crap."
