    If you really want to do it, do this: rm "~/Library/Preferences/*LS*" ...then log out and back in again. But you really shouldn't ever have to do this.

    For the icons finder doesnt like to refresh some of them is all you dont have to log out and back in simply force quit finder and it restarts it and the icons come back. Other problem, Have you tried the *nix command "rm" yet to that desktop folder?

    Be aware that if you use sudo to force a file to be rm'ed that is in use, you may cause a Kernel failure ( as has been reported by others here already ).

    If you guys are comfortable with the CLI, it is easy to delete anything you like. lets say you have file.sit on your desktop. open the terminal and type this: sudo rm Desktop/file.sit It will ask for your password. Blammo. File gone.

    sudo rmdir directoryname it'll ask you for the admin password and then it will delete it. I'm not sure if its a good idea though, but that will work. If the folder isn't empty, try sudo rm -R directoryName instead.
