i think that's probably largely true. I think MS is kinda in their own dark age right now.

And what are Steve Jobs donations again?

A lot of people give him a hard time, but I've always liked Gates--the man, not necessarily the biz practices. In appearances at computer shows I've attended, he's been warm and funny and generous with his praise for others. There are plenty of posters on these forums who can't live up to that kind of rep.

Have all you guys forgotten that Steve Jobs first stole from XEROX and then BG stole from SJ? And that they used to be friends

    Who cares.

We're talking business, not charity. Charitable donations have no impact on product. They don't make my Macbook Pro go any faster or its casing any shinier. CEO philanthropy doesn't really figure into my purchasing decisions. Might mean something to investors, but judging by Apple's numbers and the confidence investors have in the company, it doesn't matter. Steve Jobs could give ZERO dollars and Apple would still turn out a record quarter and blow away The Street.

Bill Gates gives away a lot of his money. It doesn't comparatively mean all that much because he has plenty from which to give.

Steve Jobs only draws a $1 salary. It doesn't comparatively mean much because most of his wealth comes from the 138 million shares he owns of the Walt Disney Co., a 7.3 percent stake that makes him Disney's largest individual shareholder.

Either example is a good case for fairness, charitability, economy. But neither is really impressive if you're even remotely a purist.

Yeah screw charity you know those poor people that can't afford a "premium" computer.

You really are a major tool.

Ive has in his videos, hear the excitement in Phil's voice during presentations, even Tim Cook sounds prideful when discussing the numbers. While the loss of SJ would no doubt be painful, I don't see it as spelling the demise of Apple. In any case, here's hoping that day is a long way off.

The problem isn't lack of passion. What would be missing if Steve was gone is the somewhat egomaniacal demand for perfection (or at least Steve Jobs' vision of perfection) along with the authority (as a cofounder) to make people obey without rebellion.

It wouldn't spell the demise of Apple, but we might start seeing more 'Microsoftian' mistakes at Apple without him. We'd certainly see more conservatism, fewer bold strokes, and much less 'vision discipline'. Apple may go from 'Insanely Great' to merely 'Great'. It's still a long throw from where Microsoft has been lo these many years.

Since he keeps that info to himself, I don't know. What really surprises me is that you don't know because you post like you know everything. In the end it doesn't really matter because whatever the amount it wouldn't please you.
