Pretty much what was expected" - An incremental 'Update'.
It would have been nice to have:
- A higher resolution display
- A bump to 128gb at the high end
- Higher resolution cameras
- Built-in Stereo speakers
- An SDHC/XC card slot for transferring pictures etc.
- A dock port that allows the connector to sit flush writhe the device.
- A design that didn't force one to buy all new cases/accessories.
Overall, this really is what the device should have been at the beginning, and I'm sure it will sell very well.
Incremental? NOT! This thing is re-designed with all-new guts. Looking at the specs this beast is AT LEAST 2X faster than iPad 1. Up to 9X better graphics. I skipped iPad 1, I'll definitely picking up one of these & the cool new smart cover they showed off.
Yikes. I sure hope iOS 5 has some major improvements to keep people happy until iPad 3 comes out.
Also, HDMI with a special $39 connector? How is that slick, convenient, or a good user experience. I hate carrying bags of connectors cables and dongles, and even more so with an ultra-portable.
Apple on Wednesday took the wraps off of its second-generation tablet, officially dubbed "iPad 2," with a completely new, thinner design, a faster dual-core A5 processor, and two video cameras, shipping on March 11.
This is not correct. ORDERS start March 11th. Checked their website plus tried to order. Did Steve Jobs mis-speak?
The display is stunning, what needs to be changed about it?
I have an Iphone 4 and I have seen an Ipad. I guess I have been spoiled and see room for improvement from the Ipad but I understand technology/price/availability cannot keep up.
I guarantee you that on Ipad 3 the first bullet point will be display quality change. I was hoping to see that today.
I am leaning towards getting an Ipad 2 so I guess my real question is should I wait a little longer since I do not have an Ipad or wait for Ipad 3 - if it is a year from now I will buy the Ipad 2 - if it is this fall I can wait. I am perplexed about what to do.
No one will be shipping a significantly better display at this point. So its not that big of a deal. This is just the reality of where we are right now.

I bought the low end iPad last March, and have NEVER regreted it. Buy it now, then sell the older one when the new one comes out. Why punish yourself over a couple hundred bucks?
I had hoped for a Thunderbolt port as I think it would make a good tech demo, and the timing was right for it. Oh well. Sad that they're making me wait longer to see iOS 5
iPad 2 looks really good though and I'm glad HDMI finally made an appearance (I wonder if they used the unused pins in the dock connector for it since digital video out wasn't available before), it should be coming to the rest of the iOS devices now.

Overall looks great, but still a few unanswered questions:
512MB or 1GB Ram?
Any improvement on the display?
Resolution of front facing camera?
We won't know about the RAM until iFixit gets one but I believe it must be at least 512MB. The display is the same resolution as the iPad.

You are so predictable.
This from a guy who bought 3 (or is it 9) Samsung Galaxy Tabs because they are perfect...

Not quite! iPad 1 should have had 500 GB of storage, 4 GB of RAM, 3 GHz quad-core A10 processor, etc.
Pfffttt!!!!

I think its funny that you can only Geotag via Wifi even in the 3G/GPS version

We are definitely upgrading our two iPad 1s.
Teachers, docs, business people... many other occupations... this will do wonders.
It is most certainly not a toy.
But what are we supposed to do with it when holding the iPad during use?
