Apple: Hardware on Hold
Maccentral quotes Apple as saying that there will be 'no new CPUs at Macworld Tokyo' and that the company is 'set for some months now.'
Guess this means it will be all about OSX for a while.

I guess the rumors I heard about a newly designed G4 may be spot on. 130nm and a new core with more L2 cache and a better bus. I heard the pipeline will be extended to 11 stages. This was a rumor heard on the DL and the source is non-technical so take it with a grain of sodium-cloride.
apple never talks
about upcoming
hardware in the
first place
and of course
they don't want
people to wait
for the new products
they want people
to buy things now
i still think
bump pb at mwt

This quote from the article is apparently attributable to Apple's senior director of Hardware Product Marketing Greg Joswiak. This is extremely depressing.
What does "no new CPUs" mean? does that exclude speed bumps? Could apple say this, but still give the TiBook a little bump in Tokyo? It's looking way overpriced in the lineup right now, so obviously not a total overhaul, but just some more speed to keep it in line with pro specs...
rr.
Apple doesn't need Joe Public to consider buying a new Titanium only for him to hold off because he heard on Appleinsider that a G5 version is around the corner.
Probably a good move on Apple's part. For the rest of us, not so good, but let's just make do with what we have.
Perhaps Apple can now focus more on optimizing and fine tuning OSX.

Purchases on hold.
I think we should be a bit more conservative with our interpretations. Before MW in Jan, I was thinking those teasers were telling us that the second coming of Christ was on the horizon, but instead we got an iMac. If we restrict our rumormongering to stuff which they specifically tell us isn't happening, then we'll get dissapointed. They just told is, in plain language, that theres not gonna be any new hardware for a while. So, theres not. OS X.1.3, soon, and x.2 later, but hdwr will be a while.

I don't know. I can't make out the meter but it does sort of look like e. e. cummings writing, doesn't it?
I immediately latched on to the "CPU" semantics and thought maybe that left them room for bumps. In fact, I went a little further and thought, "hmmm... 'CPU'... well, that might only mean they aren't going to be changing any of the processors... gonna stick with G4s... they're just squashing the G5 rumors! And, they said 'few months'... that means we'll have a G5 after only a few months! Yippeee!"
Ridiculous, isn't it?
