Not in millions as a consumer device, but possibly in the 100s of thousand for vertical markets. Anybody currently using a high resolution graphics tablet and workstation must be wishing that they could use an A4 or even A3 multi-touch tablet instead.
Somebody certainly will end up making such devices, though it's entirely possible it won't be Apple. HP has expressed interest but WebOS is way too slow for that. RIM thinks it knows what the enterprise wants. MS definitely wants this market with Windows-8. Apple might go for it though.
We're pretty close to the point where an iPhone may have more power than an XBox
Tell me about it! That's what I've been saying for quite a while. But alas, we are not there just yet. But when the iPad 3 or 4 can exceed the Xbox and developers bring the triple-A titles to the iPad 3 or 4, I will rejoice. But for the second half of this year, if fate smiles on me, I will get my Xbox. I'm not sure if you've read my tirades against PC gaming. The only reason I keep my PC around nowadays is for games, since I'm unlikely to be an MCSE anytime soon. Just playing Dirt 3, it crashes once per session. Strangely, it has to crash once, then after a reboot, it's fine for a good few hours of gaming.
It's not about iPad 2 having a flaw or selling like hot cakes.
It's about Apple working to a Christmas release date for iPads. They need a warm update of the iPad2 in September/October for the Christmas market - exactly the same as iPods. They need to work on Christmas releases for iPads as soon as they can.
They need it? They didn't need it last year and the iPad sold like hot cakes over the Christmas season.
We really havent see a tablet specific processor yet (at least not one I consider to be tablet targeted) so it is very possible something much faster is coming for the fall. My point is this story can not stand without supporting evidence.
Excellent points and I agree.

I'm sure such an upgrade would drive sales. I would not however jump on the bandwagon without being convinced it isn't a step backwards.
Well, Apple has a history of paying attention to details so I'm not as worried about that as I would be with other companies. But as they sat, time will tell!

Maybe iPad 2 Pro with bigger screen - say A4 size. That would truly be a "post PC device".
A big problem with that is the branding implications - maxipad is already taken
No. It wouldn't. The current iPad is fine.
It would supplement not replace the current iPad.

Then no one would buy it.
