If the point of this ad is to convince people of why they should buy the Galaxy S II, then it is a terrible ad that does not accomplish that goal.
If the point of this ad is to take shots at Apple. Then it was pretty successful.
Actually, it wasn't very successful at taking shots at Apple. It was taking shots at Apple users by relying on some idiotic stereotypes. I'm no marketing guru or anything but I'm pretty sure insulting your potential customers is a dumb move.

They aren't targeting Apple users to switch. Good thing too.
Frankly, if I'm trying to grab the "I'm not going to follow the crowd" crowd I'd push WP7...
I never bothered about the Android platform... there is no guarantee that you will get the next software update and handset makers really don't bother about the existing customers who bought in.
After iPhone 4s launch in India with its ridiculous pricing and the still more astronomical rate plans provided by the carriers.. it just does not make sense to own a iPhone. I would rather buy a Macbook or maybe Air with the price of the iPhone.. Now waiting for the Nokia phone with windows, if Nokia does not match up I would buy into a refurbished iPhone 4 or even a 3GS..
The funniest thing about the ad is that only in Samsungs wildest dreams could they expect to sell even half as many Galaxy SII handsets as the iPhone 4S sold at launch alone.
My mate at earphone warehouse has a stack of Galaxy SII handsets ready to return for recycling which were all traded in for iPhone 4S handsets.

I hope the 5 is a big improvement. 4G I personally have no interest in, as 4G networks don't exist in the UK, but I certainly want a much larger screen, more system RAM, and for Apple to push NFC.
More system RAM?? why do you require this? do you find the RAM lacking? if so please explain???
Never, ever, EVER, put references to your competitors products or the people buying them in your ads.
Samsung really has a terrible marketing, if it weren't for the fact that they have such a strong brand image (mostly because they are everywhere, in any market imaginable) they would be just like Motorola or LG.
How they can make the classic mistake of trying to sell stuff using negative advertising is beyond me, sometimes it looks like Samsung Electronics is ran by complete idiots.
It's a good commercial. A bit crude but good for the target audience.
Stop being buthurt at a little fun made in your expense.
That's kinda hypocritical considering how wantonly you all (purposeful generalization) diss anyone who is not a fan of the Apple ecosystem or their products.

So what was the "I'm a PC" ad campaign all about if not belittling the competition and stereotyping?
Personally I think Sammy did a pretty good job with the ad. Funny, nailed talking points, didn't go overboard. Did I say funny?
That's kinda hypocritical considering how wantonly you all (purposeful generalization) diss anyone who is not a fan of the Apple ecosystem or their products.
Your "purposeful generalisation" qualifier still doesn't make it true. That's a pretty lazy, mud-slinging attack.
Personally I don't give a flying f*** what brand phone someone uses, I don't question my friends decisions to get an HTC, Samsung or Windows Phone. That doesn't mean I can't post on an Apple-oriented website my opinions on the short-comings of rival companies/products. Going by most regular posters comments here, I don't believe that they simply "diss anyone who is not a fan of the Apple ecosystem or their products."
Maybe I'm just weird, but the thing that bugs me about the advert is that there are not currently people standing in line (at least not with 9 hours to go) waiting for the next Apple phone because the 4S launch was nearly six weeks ago.
This would have worked really well in the week or so between the 4S announcement and release date (although they wouldn't have been able to get the dig about the battery life in). Now it just seems lame - "the next big thing is already here" whether you mean the Samsung phone or the Apple one.
See below. Guess Apple doesn't know the rules either.

Fair point, I thought the "I'm a PC" commercials were stupid as well, just like the ones Microsoft made as a rebuttal. They are all a form of negative advertising. If your product is actually worth it's money, you should be able to advertise it on its strong points, not by making the competition look bad.
I love the line "If it looks the same, how will people know that I upgraded?"
Apple people get accused all the time of using Apple products because their a status symbol. That is complete BS. In fact this seems to indicate the opposite.
We don't need a phone that looks completely different just so others will know that we've upgraded and are carrying the latest greatest phone. My phone is for ME, not for anyone else. A requirement for an upgrade doesn't mean that the screen size has to change, or is must be thinner and in doing so make my accessories obsolete.
The people that get their nighty in a knot because the 4S looks like the 4, seem to think that a cosmetic change is more important than under the hood improvements. These same people said that this phone would not sell, yet it is. They can't make them fast enough. The 4S does what I need it to do and then some.
I'm not saying that a slightly larger screen wouldn't be an improvement. I'm not saying that thinner and lighter isn't a good thing. Those things, while very nice, are not that important in the big scheme of things. Faster is important to me. A better camera is important to me. Siri is a killer feature that is only going to get better. The original Siri app was terrific, but Apple's Siri is far better having baked it in to the OS.
Yep, Apple people know that bigger isn't always better, nor is a cosmetic change so everyone will know that I upgraded, a reason to buy a new phone. Apple took a terrific phone and simply made it better – under-the-hood. That's fine by me.
You do know the difference between opinion and fact, do you not?
Exactly. Samsung have a lot of lilly-pads to go before they can even dream of 'leapfrogging' Apple. 'Anthropic' sounds like a Samsung troll.
This ad is built on a HUGE fantasy, trying to get us to believe that iPhone users would actually gawk at a Samdung imitation. In real life if I were waiting in line for an iPhone and saw someone using a galaxy or whatever it's called I'd probably just think "poor chick, she's either behind the times or just can't afford to switch to Apple right now'.
I don't know which part of your complete misinterpretation of that fact sheet comes off with the most "fail". Is it the fact that you think total assets equals cash, or that you think the Won equals a US dollar?
Either way, you really botched that one.
2010 financial statements pegged cash at 8.5 Billion which is 1/10th of Apples cash reserve.
I thought the ad was effective, would probably have folks on the fence at least go take a look. It's not a criticism of the 4GS, but a ad designed to make standing in line at a Apple store seem a bit silly for the next release.
It is a bit last year though, pre-order seems to be the way to go now, so the ad is even better since it picks on a issue that is already solved.
I can just imagine if Apple made an ad stereotyping Android users. Whoo boy, what a pimply-faced nerd-fest that would be. No worries though, Apple has too much class for that. Android buyers now outnumber iPhone buyers by much more than two-to-one. There are now as many Android phone users as there are iPhone users.
They are hardly pimply faced nerds. They are a cross section of the world. There are currently twice as many different people who choose Android as there are people who choose any of the various Apple phones.

Yes. High sales prove that a product is revolutionary. For example, Campbell Soup has high sales.
As for magical, high sales also prove that a product is magical. Take Lady Gaga music for example. She sells so many that only magic can explain it.
So it is proven that the iPad is both "magical and revolutionary" because Apple made lots of profit from it.

You could sell it on Craigslist and get plenty enough cash to buy a Samsung.
Why the hell were my posts all screwed up?!
I hate that style of cramming disparate topics into a single post. It screws up the timing and the message.
When I see someone who has crammed together a bunch of different stuff in one big gigundo post, I usually skip it.
This forum software sucks big time. But to have one of its worst "features" imposed involuntarily is just silly.
Why not just get software that threads the posts properly? This software sucks worse than any other web forum that I have seen.
The UI is HORRIBLE. Toolbars all over the place, cryptic labels, no threading options, no way to sort posts, no way to hide threads with no new comments - just serial bullshit.
And to think that cramming together disparate responses into one big long rambling post improves anything is just plain wrong.

I have no doubt that you guys like the clicks, therefore the eyeballs, therefore the ad revenue. But you may wish to worry about your authenticity.
We are volunteers; just members of the community like you. We've got nothing to do with the commercial side of AI.
I suggest that you try to be less cynical; not everyone with a contrary opinion to yours is being paid to have said opinion.
You should switch Siri to UK English.

but one thing that makes me sick is that they had to find a guy who looks like the "mac guy" in the "pc vs mac" ads to say the words, which is low.

The 1st iPhone had no 3G.
The 2nd had a display resolution that was slightly below the norm.
The 3rd was well below the norm.
The 4th was clearly smaller than the average Android phone.
Sounds like all the iPhones were utter failures.
Yes! and all the sales figures back that up!
The Samsung spot was very funny..... Apple besides designing and creating quality products always has the BEST marketing spots in the industry!
Apple people get accused all the time of using Apple products because their a status symbol. That is complete BS. In fact this seems to indicate the opposite.
