Whats up with just the increase on the iMac???</strong><hr></blockquote>

Something else that I've often wondered about is the issue with dead pixels. I've never heard somebody complain about dead pixels on a Cinema display, only on PB and iBooks. Why is that&gt; <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Alll I know is that my iBook has a perfect screen. I've heard more people complain about dead pixels on the iMacs rather than the iBooks and PBs.

lol, i just checked for kicks, the new display has 41% more real estate, and costs 40% more. i thought it was a rip off until i did the math. oh well, this was about what i expected, but i had hoped the iPod prices would fall.

Guys, it has been reported that Apple is makin little money on each iMac. Cut the margins real close. Where as on the Ti/iBooks they have some room to work with. So if the ram and LCD costs went up, they still make money on the Labtops, but a hundred buck increase in building costs could cause a hit on the iMacs. Thats why I think it is not BS

Stop panicing about the price hike. There's no reason to not believe Apple. In fact, there's every reason to believe it. First of all, have memory prices gone up? Anyone who watches the prices even vaguely knows they have. A stick of 512 cost $40 or less a few months ago. Now you're lucky to find it for less than $110.

Second, have LCD prices gone up? Yes, as reported <a href="http://news.com.com/2100-1040-843455.html"; target="_blank">throughout the internet</a>. Some people believe the price has gone up by as much as 30%. Considering that Apple probably pays $250 for their (high quality) displays, that's $75 right there.

Third, is the iMac still a great deal. Yes! Even the most hate-filled among you must admit that you were impressed by how good the stats on the iMac were for so little -- a 700MHz G4, GeForce 2, LCD, etc, for $1300? And yes, even for $1400 that's still a great deal. At $1300 Apple was probably already cutting their margins thin. They need money to do <a href="http://"www.apple.com/macosx""; target="_blank">this stuff</a>, <a href="http://"www.apple.com/quicktime""; target="_blank">that stuff</a>, and <a href="http://"www.apple.com/itunes""; target="_blank">this too</a>.

Fourth, this is capitalism. Apple is a corperation. There's a lot of demand. There's a short supply. It's basic economics. Don't knock the best system of economics in the world, especially when you consider the alternatives.

    So in conclusion, STOP WHINING.

And as far as the iPod I baught mine in January... One of the best investments I have ever made... Honestly I never leave home without it. Thier are some people who have wanted a 10 gig also. I know some people who use half of thier 5mbs as a harddrive. Some people do need that space for music and files.

Been recovering since I first started getting the play-by-play from the Floor in Tokyo this evening. Well.... nothing for the iBook or Powerbooks in Tokyo, but a nifty extra HD in the iPod. I use mine as much for transfers and as a harddisk as anything, though I just love its style. Could always use another 5 GB.

BUT the Cinema HD is truly awesome. How can Steve now NOT give us a way to use the thing as a HDTV display. .. Where's my digital TV hub?

It's look like that Tokyo is a non event.

Like Amorph we see an updated, perhaps e second generation of Ti-book before MWNY.

Steve and the other non-Japanese speak English. For the Japanese audience there is a simultaneous translation in Japanese broadcast over FM radio. There was a small receiver and earphone on each chair when we came in.

Some of the product demonstrations were given in Japanese (EG Word, In Design, Photoshop).

Steve presented the price increase as a choice between cutting features or increasing price. The choice was to increase price and keep the features. The next choice was whether to raise prices by $100, $150 or $200. As is widely reported he announced $100 price increases. Anyway, that is where those numbers came from.

    neutrino23,

Good buddy, was there anything in the back of the Hall that really seemed a must-have, like the little screen shields or placticized port covers I got for my Japanese iBook last year? Or the nifty little kit to change my white glowing apple into a red glowing one? Or piezo-electric fans to cool the base of a PowerBook or the like?

I didn't see much in the way of things you could acquire but there were a number of things just cool to look at; the beer server, the all black LCD iMac, the transparent iBook, the "visible" PB540 and such.

The one place which had anything really cool to add on to a Mac was the company making a base for the iMac which included a docking slot for an iPod and a set of ports in front of the machine. They also had several wireless audio devices that plugged into your Mac via USB and broadcast to receivers around the house. Mac Observer has more details on this. They all seem to be just prototypes.

    I have some photos here:
