Two please. Right now. Our iPhone 4s feel so sluggish these days.
Just gotta figure out whether to leave AT&Thieves for Verizon or not.
No sign of AT&T LTE in Philly. That might do it.
I'll bite. What the hell are you doing on a 4S that makes it feel 'sluggish'? I'm serious. It's been smooth as butter since the day I got it, and I've tried hundreds of apps on it, and probably the more intensive ones out there. Still more responsive than any other phone I've used, even the new flagship Android ones ( One X, S3). So tell me, in what situation does the 4S feel sluggish? I've never once heard this comment, either online or from anyone I know that owns the phone.
Good point. However, will Verizon users need a sim?
Need? Not to my knowledge. Um… they DO use SIMs for some LTE stuff, though, don't they? Voice and 3G data will still be over CDMA, so Apple will have to have the componentry for that in the phone, at least until everyone can get voice over LTE standardized…
hmmm - do you suppose they'll call it the "The New iPhone" instead of iPhone 5 ?
or maybe iPhone 4LTE ?
or maybe if it has an A6 chip in it they will call it the iPhone 6 ?
or maybe if it has a 4.3" Screen they will call it the iPhone 4.3LTE, the phone that Rhymes (or would that be reserved for the Iphony4.3LTE)?
There is little to no chance they'd call it iPhone 5 since iPhone 4S was the 5th iPhone... also its stupid to keep the numbers up... what will we have 20 years from now? the iPhone 18 ? Its most likely they'll go with the Mac and iPad number strategy and just call it iPhone. Yes they'll launch it as "the new iPhone" but that doesn't mean its called "the new iPhone" ... that New iPad joke got very old very fast and it just isn't funny at all anymore.

Sammy's announced a 2-sim phone for the European market. Advantageous for travelers I imagine, with support for two concurrent phone numbers and two carrier's. That would be an interesting path for Apple to take IMO. I have friend's now who travel between the UK and the States on a regular basis (several times a year) and are frequently changing SIMs and numbers. Apparently it's even more of an issue in Europe.
With NASDAQ tanking, Apple will become their Hail Mary Pass for several investors and fund managers. If Apple could not pull it off, another round of Wall Street layoffs could be on.
Which bank or fund might close the door if Apple could not reach $700 this year?
In what world is the NASDAQ at: 3,074 considered `tanking'?
I remembered you told us Apple is not immune to U.S. recession, and I believe that. But why the recession begins to bite Apple now, this time this year?
First of all it's NEXT year that the iPhone purchases will fall off, and secondly, it's not a recession that may cause it, it's that so many will purchase an iPhone THIS year and they won't be ready to buy another one next year. You could say that Apple is pumping the pipeline to have explosive sales every other year.
FWIW - I am sure Apple will sell a lot of them... in the US.
The iPhone is struggling in Europe as carriers aren't subsidizing as much and europeans aren't as tech crazy as we are.
Also, higher speed networks are REALLY hit/miss there. China, the iPhone is doing so-so.
250M units though is a pretty crazy number, but feasible if you are talking the ENTIRE product lifecycle... maybe 2/2.5 years?
Heck the iPhone 3GS is just starting to end of life.
The ONLY thing I truly think that may hold the iPhone (or iPad) back at this point is iOS. I know you guys, myself included, like the simplicity of the OS. But, compared to newer OS' like Android Jellybean(?) or even Windows 8... there's a TON of features one wishes iOS had integrated into the OS versus using an app for... which Android and Windows 8 has built-in versus requiring an app to do that. And with most tech users, once we get the foundation usage patterns established, we tend to want a little bit more.
Struggling in Europe! Certainly not in the UK where iPhone is the dominant high end smartphone. Carrier subsidies mean nothing when the cheapest ownership model is to buy the phone outright and get a dirt cheap sim only contract. Way cheaper that a typical 2 year UK contract with a 4S from a major carrier. If anyone is struggling in the UK it's Samsung. The 2 year ownership cost for a high end Samsung makes them expensive.
I'm really not sure why there's so much hype over the potential success of the iPhone 5. It's just another incremental upgrade. It's physically near identical to the last two models, the screen size is barely any larger - and certainly a long, long way behind Android sizes, and it will get the usual small mid-cycle GPU bump from the iPad 3. I guess there'll be 4G for one or two markets, but for nobody else.
So why the hype? What is the iPhone 5 doing that's so new?
Why the hype? Maybe, I dunno, cause Apple's devices consistently set the template and the tone for everyone else in the industry (or industries) and what they do reverberates more than anyone else. Your definition of screen size as the standard for judging the phone's value is hilarious. What is the iPhone 5 doing thats so new? A better question would be, what the hell do you know about the next iPhone? The answer is nothing. Maybe you should wait until the damn thing is unveiled to come to any judgement, cause as of now everyone is still in the dark. It's not a stretch to assume Apple has a few things up its sleeve left to surprise, from a software/hardware standpoint.
I love how the reaction of the trolls with every device unveiling (or in this case, pre-unveiling) is 'Whats the big deal'?
'Whats the big deal? Its just a massive iPod touch. Doesnt even have a real OS. Tablets are doomed to fail anyway. Blah blah blah'.
Then, after the devices changes the course of the entire industry, it changes to 'oh, well that was the natural evolution anyway, Apple's product/solution was 'obvious', and other such bullshit. The hype, at the end of the day, is because the iPhone is really the only smartphone that matters. Nobody else has the full package, nor is making any real dent in progressing the medium. Its still astronomically ahead in build quality, useability, OS responsiveness, support, app ecosystem, customer satisfaction, etc. Nothing else touches it in this regard, but according to you all this stuff doesn't matter to most people, its all about having ridiculously large screen sizes, so therefore iPhone is 'a long, long way behind. Right.
You really need to bone up on things before just talking. You're right about the first seven words, and that's all.
I didn't make myself clear. The term LTE just isn't used by the marketing departments of European carriers. The whole European focus has been to refer just to 4G. In the UK even that is a long way off, apart from a few technical trials. The frequency auction is yet to take place and Ofcom are talking of consumers not getting a service until late 2013 at the earliest.
I though iPhone 5 would be the easiest choice. They can even keep LTE for S version when AT&T is ready with proper LTE coverage. Since LTE equivalent on GSM is not ready for prime time yet.
Yeah and I though iPad 3 was the easiest choice for The new iPad. so what comes next The new2 iPad, The new iPad2, the iPad4? just The iPad, The new new iPad, The newer iPad, then after that The newest iPad?

It's hard to tell if you're serious about this. Please tell me you're not.

Don't ask me, ask Ive. He was the one who chose new iPad rather than iPad 3.

Do a 10 year sample. It's not tanking.

Can't see Apple calling it iPhone LTE as LTE is specific to the US. No one in Europe will have any idea what LTE is.
