So you think the quote would be better if Munster researched what he thought was the very best watch maker, bar none, and used some obscure name that no one had heard of? How does using unrecognizable names that need to be researched by all buy the very few and explained to nearly everyone make a quote better?
"Gene Munster with Piper Jaffray said while the iPhone 5 is like an IWC, many competing phones "feel more like cheaper Huangpu-brand watches."
Et tu, Brute?

Don't worry, we all knew that you meant Astronomy.
I quick note to those commenting on the use of the brand "Rolex" as the upper echelon in this analogy. I think it's use isn't trying to say that Rolex is the best time piece maker available but rather that the public view of the brand is very positive and associated with quality by the average consumer – who isn't accustomed to shopping for watches over $500 dollars. Yes, there are "better" watches (better always being subjective) but I think it's fair to say that the average person perceves the Rolex brand to be of luxury quality, like Rolls Royce, Cartier and Louis Vutton. The factual "quality" or detail-oriented "greatness" could be desputed but I think it's fair to say it would be splitting hairs.
Nevermind the fact the iPhone 5 is more than a screen size change, what would make you switch?
Thinner and lighter.
Far more powerful processor
Different appearance (funny how the trolls whined about the 4S for not having a different appearance, but don't consider the different appearance to be a selling point for the new one)
New capabilities with the connector
Improved battery life
LTE connectivity
And there are many time pieces built better than a Rolex.
Yet the message came across. Basically, the analyst was saying "you get a super-premium product for the same price as the cheap junk". The intent was clear.
Personally, I wouldn't have chosen Rolex. Rolex tends to be glitzy and encrusted with diamonds and gold that have no purpose. A better choice would have been Movado - super high quality, premium product which emphasizes minimalism in design and superb construction.
Come on even apple fans liked what nokia presented with the 920. I think this shows how biased this person really is. I have an iphone 4s and just a screen size change will not make me switch.
if you thought it was just a screen change, you missed everything that happened.

While Rolex is arguably one of the best known luxury watches, a $50 Timex can tell time as accurately if not better than a Rolex. The iPhone deserves a better analogy than that.
Well that's not so bad. My Watch loses a second every second.
I bought a cheap "zombie" watch which is where a Chinese company buys out a bankrupt Swiss watch company for the name and reputation, it has a Swiss movement but loses time if I take it off, if it's kept at body temperature it's fine.
There are a lot of them on eBay.
Maybe the iPhone 5 is like an Omega surrounded by zombies.
Having just had to fork out $800 to have my Rolex 'serviced' as it lost seconds every day and self wind was failing I'm not happy with the analogy either!
Those who have a Rolex know that, although beautiful, they are not known to keep accurate time.
Not if you know about time pieces. Everyone knows Rolex because they advertise heavily but there are plenty of better built watches and some are even less expensive than a Rolex.
Yeah, but the fact is, most people who don't know the exact details of who makes the "best" watch believe Rolex to be superior to Timex. He could equally have said a Rolls-Royce amongst a sea of Fords, and would certainly have had, I don't know, Aston Martin fans banging on about why he is wrong and why Rolls-Royce isn't even the best built car.
The one minor fault in his analogy is that in my experience, quartz watches, which Timex tend to be, are much better at actually telling the time than mechanical watches........

The average person doesn't know how well a rolex can tell time, nor are the interested – and come on, really? The iPhone DESERVES a better analogy? As a known fanboy for the last almost 20 years, even I know it's just a "thing", not a person. It hasn't been "disrespected" by this unofficial comment by a third party. Everyone up in arms about the Rolex thing need to step back and chill for a minute. iPhone's honour hasn't been challenged… put the pistols away.

Auto correction fail, I fixed it. My fault for not proofreading
Substitute Kia for Ford to be more accurate ....

Sounds like plenty of reason to switch.

Did we? I don't recall liking a proven fake batch of lies.

Doubt it. He was alive for the 4S, and I remember them saying he was working on the 5 before he died. I'm betting this is exactly what he was expectin

They should have micro etched his image all the way around the chamfer.
