I don't really take public transportation, but I can see how that would be an issue for some people.

As it stands though, the turn-by-turn navigation and the speed enhancements make for a much better app, and Siri-integration is awesome. Just now I did a POI search and clicked the little car icon next to the red pin and a route instantly is drawn, with turn by turn ready to start. Much, much easier.

I'll agree that the turn-by-turn functionality is a big deal. I dunno . . . maybe I'll warm up to it.

I did use Street View, though, and on a number of occasions it served me well. I suppose it's a personal preference.   *shrugs*

    WiFi CONNECTION ISSUE

    Detailed here:

    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1446596

I'm not able to connect to my WiFi network, either with iPad 2 or iPhone 4, both running iOS 6.

It connects but then drops it, and then loads up an Apple.com login page.

My Mac running Mountain Lion, however, connects just fine.

    POSSIBLE FIX (WORKED FOR ME):

    This fixed it for me

    Go To:

Settings>Wi-Fi>("Your Network")> [the blue circle arrow icon]

Scroll to bottom of screen and set HTTP Proxy to Auto

    .. hope that helps

I searched for 'pizza'. Google returned around 7-8 results. Apple returned 1.

I switched to satellite imagery. Google returned high res, crisp visuals. Apple returned something so blocky it would embarrass a VIC-20. My road was literally less than 10 pixels. It was comically bad, so terrible it's hard to believe anyone could ever release it.

I then had a scan around the regular maps, and of course, Google's were packed with detail. Apple's were mostly empty.

I even tried the turn by turn to route me to where I work, to find Apple only offered me two routes - one through a toll road (with no option to disable toll roads that I could find), and another on a totally obscure little road which I would never use. It ignored the two giant motor ways I can normally use.  I'll stick to Co-Pilot.

And street view is of course, removed too, taking with it what is for me a vital maps feature.

Maybe it will get better, who knows, but my advice would be that if you rely on maps, do not 'upgrade'.

So how long have you been working at this place if you still need GPS to guide you there?

I just jump in my car and drive to work.

I'm with you. Large parts of my city are covered by clouds as well. Can't see my house at all. I was prepared for the loss of street view, but I had no idea that the satellite imagery would be so crappy.

Just noticed that they changed the phone Keypad screen. The numbers are no longer black. They are a light gray. Seems like an odd change.

Of course I checked out my own house and it is an older photo than the Google version (about three years old where Google was about one year) and also Apple's version is at least one maybe two magnification level less than Google. I'm particularly disappointed with the map view of my city in Central American as well, both the street map and satellite views. Totally inferior to the previous Google version.

    Those are iClouds.

    They're a feature, not a bug.

I understand this issue has been escalated to God (who uses a Mac, by the way, but missed out on the initial batch of iPhone 5 pre-orders) who has arranged to change the weather for the next iOS update.

Okay, so I've been playing with maps and when you go to a major metropolitan city, (I did Toronto and Chicago) that is cool. Now I see what the fuss is about. Problem is the other 99% is not there yet. I don't think they should have removed the old google map app yet.

Well, if that's a problem for you, then don't have dinner that way!

    (Yes, that was extreme sarcasm!)

I guess the war with Google matters more than user experience. At least we can add the a google Maps web app to our home screen. Though it probably doesn't work as well as the native app did.

Actually, I've found him to be a very happy and helpful guy.

    And puppy's love him.

Pendergast, you've been added to my 'Double-post list'.

Are you referring to the war that began with Google entering the mobile phone business (while having a director on Apple's Board that failed to mention this) while Apple didn't enter the search business?

I am a bit disappointed that they took away the swipe feature between lists in Reminders. I always would cross check list between personal and work to plan my time. Now I have to go back out on the menu and select the list manually. What a let down!! Why would Apple take away this functionality?

I don't understand the people saying that Apple removed 2 Google apps. They specifically told the press that Googles' contract expired after 5 years and they didn't renew it.

For me, not only is it slower than Google maps it's really poorly designed.  For my uses it's a complete sh*t-fest.  The entire app is basically slanted towards people in cars.  The turn by turn directions are not only designed with skeuomorphic

At first I was underwhelmed with the upgrade. Outside of passbook (which could have just been a downloadable app- like cards or find iPhone), and maps (which I'm very glad about turn by turn navigation)- it seemed like everything else was UI. I like the colors better and the clock up top turning Blue while checking mail, the keypad, weather, boxes at the bottom of music/app store, etc. but ultimately- I left with... That's it?
But I've noticed little subtle changes throughout using it- like full screen safari- makes a significant difference on a small screen. Or wifi/4g switching. And my contacts- I can select multiple groups in my "Rolodex", instead of one.

So overall- the evolution continues. I wonder if there will be more than just a 1.1 update like iOS 5 had (which is incredible!)

I have a very long commute and the roads I use are prone to pretty apocalyptic congestion Fortunately there are multiple routes I can use, so I rely on a GPS app to tell me when the traffic is getting worse and re-route me if that would save me time. The savings can be considerable - often well over an hour. (as I said, my commute is currently crazy long)
