If Apple want to open up Apple TV to developers to develop apps and games, they need to do it now and release it before Sony PS4 comes out at the end of the year. I could finally buy myself one (or rather upgrade my Gen 2 Apple TV).

    Can't wait!

Like people will actually buy the PS4… image

What's the placeholder price right now, $899? iOS and consoles are wholly different markets. No one's losing out by anyone doing anything anywhere else.

This could single-handedly lead of Apple's complete domination of the videogame industry. The next generation of Apple's iOS devices will have even greater graphics capabilities, and with the ease of iOS development and the reach of iOS devices, combined with an official wireless controller, it's a no-brainer developing for that platform.

And guess what? Most families aren't going to buy a Playstation 4 AND an iPad.

So you're predicting dismal PS4 sales?  That's hardly going out on a limb...

    Introduce two tiers of AppleTV:

    Consumer and Consumer/Gamer.

    • The Consumer/Gamer is a beefier set up with Dual A7s or Quad A7s [don't have a concern with power issues as it will be an AppleTV and gaming console] that comes with the new controller or dual controllers and extended with your iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch for group playing.

    • Consumer: Dual A7s to coordinate with your iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch that doesn't require the controller and large games for system intensive output.

    • Create 2 Models of flash storage: 32GB/64GB

    • Extend option to stream via Thunderbolt connection to a NAS or any other stored system to allow all games to be loaded on that and streamed on demand, not to mention Video/Audio storage.

I'm just teasing...but honestly with or without a controller if I HAD to choose between the two this Christmas it'll be an iPad Mini Retina and not a PS4.

I don't game but my 17 year old son is an avid gamer.  He tells me iPhones and iPads and iPod Touches won't work well as a traditional game controller, because the gamer wants to have his eyes on the big screen (presumably the HD TV set), while his hand are on the controller, doing things by feel.  This makes sense to me.  I've never seen a gamer constantly moving his attention back and forth from game to controller.

I hear that a new Nintendo system contradicts what I'm saying in that they have a small screen on their controller.  (I don't know know if it's touch.)  But my understanding is that this system is non standard and may not be very successful.

Jony Ive must have already done a game controller.

Maybe the world's best game controller ever.

Then he said "F*** this.  Let someone else do it."

The new Apple game controller will add a new level of skill to the games. It will be Siri-related and you will have to ask her nicely to shoot the bad guy or she will ignore you and even go off on you. Siri will also monitor the amount of cussing you do and deduct points for any bad language. Gaming is going to get a whole lot more difficult!

And you can do that with iDevices.

Apple TV already supports apps and in fact you can already play lots of iOS games "right on your TV."  Even the ones that don't support using the TV as a third monitor are supported through AirPlay.

    Yes they will

You are seriously trying to compared a placeholder price of an unreleased item to the price of an existing item? Wow, even for you that is a stretch

No, but of course you don't care.

    The three touchscreen iDevices.

EDIT: Ah, apologies. It's four now, isn't it? Curse the iPad mini.
