That doesn't fly. You have to include all totals, including when the 5 was released in China. As much as you'd like the markets to ignore facts, they won't.

The main word in your statement about China Mobile is "if".

no. you're making an "adjustment." but what matters in fact is the total sold in any given time period, period. for your adjustment to be valid, total sales would have to drop accordingly in the future (how long was the delay in the China sales start for iPhone 5? i dunno).

either the 5s/c sell more in the last quarter of the year + 10 days of September than the same period of last year (or the same number of days after launch), or they don't. more is more (or less is less).

    If you say so.

btw - for anyone that actually wants to know... the adjustment was already there... when Apple increased the number of countries for release. That adjustment is always included in the mix. [ see paragraph below for an explanation of what I am saying ]

[ It might look good on the books but analysts will consider all factors... and it will weigh on the stock price... that's what I am talking about... not the number itself... but the number with all factors considered to judge the stock outlook ]

    Here are my quick observations:

There was very little interest in the 5C except from children.

The 5C looked and felt like plastic. Not my cup of tea and that was a major negative point from other adults I talked to at the store.

Most 5C that actually sold (and even the Apple employees admitted it was a slow seller at the store) were parents buying for kids. Some parents opted to buy their kids 5S instead though.

Anyway all that to say. The 5S is an amazing smartphone the most innovative small device I've ever used. Use touch ID a few times and you'll feel the magic I'm talking about. But the 5C on the other hand. Still a head scratcher in my book.

It's not helping Apple's image. It doesn't look that great. And it's not selling well. It may be selling better than last years 4S but that's not saying much IMO.

Apple probably figured a fresh look version of the iP 5 would sell somewhat better than just the same old thing. and normally that would be true.

what may not be normal is the 5s might be a real sensation.

    Biggest sale days ever.

That's an interesting statement. So supply of the 5s may not have been that grotesquely low, so much as demand being grotesquely high. China getting a week's shot at the stock might have made a huge difference, in spite of the analysts being certain that even the 5c was too expensive for the Asian market, particularly the China market.

It might mean that while Apple could have sold a lot more of the more expensive 5s, they may, instead, end up selling a lot more of the higher margin 5c. Maybe this was their plan all along...?

Velly creaver, these Chinese from Cupertino...

of course. wider distribution should increase sales per time period if nothing else changed. the long term test is does it also increase the sales rate everywhere absolutely. we'll see.

what is really happening at the moment tho is they are selling every unit the factories can crank out, plus what they could inventory in advance. that's a different factor. every company would like to have that problem.

Thanks for the observations. Very well said. I think the younger set and up through high school and even some college may be the market for the 5c. Now, have a couple companies release game controllers for the 5c and a couple really HOT games get released in the next 2-3 months and Apple may end up eating Samsung's lunch and toasting the rest of the Android smart phones' marsh mellows between now and the end of December.

The 5c makes the Google MotoMo color palette look sickly by comparison.

No, the China Mobil deal is done, wrapped up and finalized. It will be a slow rollout due to an on-going update of the higher speed infrastructure between now and the end of the year.

The 5C is not for people who want to spend $199 on a phone. The question is, "How many folks who will only spend $99 will buy the 5C?" My guess is plenty. And more than who would buy the 5 at $99. Combined with better margins on the 5C, it will be a major win for Apple.

5c demand totally opposite 5s. 5c in US. CN, HK, AU, SG, UK, DE, all within 24 hours, both not sold on the JP online store for some reason (shows phones and links you to the main Apple site product pages). Countries that don't have the 5s or 5c yet, don't even have the iPhone 5 anymore, only 4S.

Edit: Some peeps happy with their 5c, cool:

Yeah I suspect the 5C is going to turn out to be a flop unfortunately, its neither here nor there, it should of been cheaper, then maybe it would have a market.

Hey folks, it's 5s, not 5S. 5c, not 5C. This matters, particularly for those selling them. :)

Looking around the internet, it's surprising how much tech pundits have the names of the new iPhones wrong.

Screw that. 5C. 5S. I’m not typing idiotic capitalizations. What happens if I need to make it plural?

The UK Apple stores are completely out and there was never any stock online (it started as dispatch in 7-10 working days from China). However, it seems that the carriers still have some stock left if you're willing to sign up to a new contract.

Hard to figure out # with so many countries launching at same time. One thing is certain Apple has to substantially beat last years number by sat least 2 million as they need the sales for this quarter. Stay tuned for Mondays announcement.

I don't think it was a single person, rather a full street of them.

Yes, you'll get them just after my Space Grey 32gb models which I ordered just before you. I was told 4 weeks. Sorry.

I guess I should feel pretty lucky then... ordering at 12:03 am made all the difference.  My card was charged earlier this afternoon and my order status just updated...

I think the silver CDMA is the least popular model, so that might be the reason. Still, props to you.
