Reply 6 of 98 roonster Posts: 57member May 31, 2002 6:43AM My first impression is that it's Photoshopped. The shading on the chrome Apple logo appears to be identical to that of the xserve - which is too much of a coincidence. Also all of the ingredients required for the mock-up are available from the xserve photo (except for the speaker).Three front facing removable hard disks? And only one optical drive? That'll piss a few people off.How would this case layout work with that red "test" motherboard that was doing the rounds a few weeks ago. I seem to remember that it had ATA connectors in strange places? If Apple's legal staff demand it's removal then we'll know it's genuine? Reply 7 of 98 nostradamus Posts: 397member May 31, 2002 6:52AM It's obviously a fake. There is no CPU monitor like one that on the XServe(a linear comglomeration of LED's). Reply 7 of 98 warpd Posts: 204member May 31, 2002 6:52AM Not to mention "The new G4 tower"?? I think not! Apple refer to it as "The Powermac G4" This makes me highly sceptical! Looks like a total xserve photoshop rehash!! Reply 9 of 98 jutus Posts: 272member May 31, 2002 7:09AM Oh my god. It's a photoshopped Xserve? But it looked so real.Bravo sherlocks, bravo. Reply 10 of 98 smalm Posts: 667member May 31, 2002 7:25AM [quote]Originally posted by warria:It said to be from apple site.

It's fake. There's no 10.5 multiplier that would be needed for 1.4 GHz.Never trust anyone telling you about a 1.13 GHz, 1.26 GHz or 1.4GHz G4. Reply 11 of 98 outsider Posts: 6,008member May 31, 2002 7:52AM Huh? The 7455 supports up to a 16X multiplier. http://e-www.motorola.com/brdata/PDFDB/docs/MPC7455EC.pdfPages 43 and 44. There isn't even a 10.5 multiplier. After 8 it's all whole numbers. Reply 12 of 98 scadboy Posts: 189member May 31, 2002 8:11AM very nice photoshop job, but one thing makes it quite suspect. If those drive bays are suposed to be interchangeable with Xserve's caddies, which is strongly suggested by the image, and would be a great feature IMHO, then they're too wide. The Xserve's drive caddies are about a third narrower than the CD drive. Also, the whole "New G4 Tower" thing is very unlikely, Apple hasn't used the word "Tower" to describe the PowerMac since the days of the Beige G3. The word doesn't appear anywhere on Apple promotional materials, or the product's webpage.good looking piece of work, though. Kinda gets fuzzy around the Firewire Ports and the Speaker though.ciao, michael Reply 13 of 98 ddagradi Posts: 3member May 31, 2002 8:17AM Front firewire ports...drool...Too bad its fake Reply 14 of 98 p Posts: 12member May 31, 2002 8:23AM Does anyone actually believe it's real? No, I didn't think so. It looks cool though. Reply 15 of 98 dartblazer Posts: 149member May 31, 2002 8:42AM i like it it does look somewhat fake, but then again almost everyone thought the pics of the QS were fake. i like the design, but how do you pick it up? retractable handle on top? will they offerr a grill for the front speaker? is it all made of aluminum? Reply 16 of 98 nonsuch Posts: 293member May 31, 2002 8:53AM Phony, but kinda cool. I'd take one home with me. Reply 17 of 98 jeromba Posts: 357member May 31, 2002 8:57AM i like it too... too hot babe !tell me is it quieter than the quicksilver ? Reply 18 of 98 g4dude Posts: 1,016member May 31, 2002 9:20AM Obviously a fake. But I'd snatch that up in a second. It looks GRRRREEEEAAAATTTT! Whoever made this mockup, good work! Reply 19 of 98 hmurchison Posts: 12,341member May 31, 2002 9:41AM Count me in with the "looks great" crowd. I like the industrial look of Aluminum and the current Quicksilvers are indeed nice but "Plasticky" looking. I love the blue LED's Reply 20 of 98 last time i checked Posts: 3member May 31, 2002 9:59AM someone didn't think about the text on the side very much. With 2 Gig ram, this would probabally be the ultimate BTO version, and definitley the top end. Geforce 4 MX - i don't think so. Plus 'standard superdrive' - what's that supposed to mean? Apple are not all of a sudden going to start calling the drive they're so proud of in the new imac (and old towers obviously) 'standard' -unless it means superdrive as standard.Looks like a machine to be taken seriously, however - good idea.-[ 05-31-2002: Message edited by: last time i checked ]
«12345» Sign In or Register to comment.
