Gosh, I don't see it that way.  I happen to be an American, and in all the interactions I've had with Mr. Cook (;)) I feel like he's treated me respectfully.  In contrast, in most of the encounters I've observed between Mr. Cook and Android, Cook seems to be, figuratively speaking of course, spitting on them!  :smokey:

The WWDC stage was the right place to speak directly to developers about Android's shortcomings especially in regards to customers being able to run new and updated versions of their apps. The press was listening as well and writing your story is better than having a pundit invent it.

    Exactly.

And there were probably many iOS developers in the audience who are also Android developers (or they have Android developers on their team)

I'm bet after hearing the announcements yesterday that they will begin to question the viability of developing for Android.

iOS may not have the most market share or installed base.... but it's a proven platform that gets results.

WWDC 2014 enforced that even further.

Possibly your most pathetic attempt at spin yet. Don't flatter yourself; Tim didn't seem threatened at all. iOS is so far ahead of Android it's laughable. The fact that Tim stopped where he did was a testament to his class and capacity for self-restraint. I don't know why so many here seem to tolerate you.

He is making everyone in the room think about how to spend their time and resources and if you see that all your work developing something for Windows 8 or Kitkat is only penetrating a small part of the overall mark why continue to invest. He is showing them that Android is not worth the time and energy.

Exactly. It was just as practical as it was fun. :)

Probably because otherwise it would just be a total Apple love in. Dissenting views do not seem to be welcome even if they are backed up by facts. A discussion has to be two sided or you just get self reinforcing of one view. Having a challenge to that view is a good thing.

The Samsung shareholders were in revolt about the size of Samsung advertsing budget a few months ago. Remember the bigger the lie and the more often you ram it down the public's throat the more chance it has of being believed. Apple is simply returning the favor albeit telling the truth imho.

I don't think "but Samsung is doing it" is a great reason for doing anything.  The trash-talking, rooted in fact though it may be, is demeaning to the image of the company.  I much prefer it when there's no direct mention of Android and Windows at all, and Apple talk about what Apple is doing.  When Cook starts mouthing off he's running the risk of sounding scared of the competition (I don't think he is) or like a corporate braggart (I don't think he's this either).  But perception is a big thing.

Let the community have their little arguments over what's best, Apple had a jam packed full keynote but wasted time preaching to the choir about how much they don't like Android.

I think you've confused someone else's post but quoted mine. I didn't say anything about Mr. Cook feeling threatened.

I think more than anything it was to reassure developers (many of them first time attendees and recent switchers from Android) that they have made the right decision to develop for iOS/MacOS. After that I believe it was very clear how they went out of their way not to mention google at all.

It's actually much worse than that. Tim Cook said that 9% of Android users are on the latest release, not 14%.
Android Pokice says he is wrong and it is 8.6%....

True... but that keynote was the start of Apple's developer conference and the room was full of developers.

We all love Apple and know they are doing just fine... but the fact still remains that 8 out of 10 smartphones sold today are running Android.

Tim Cook was just reinforcing the point that Apple has a wonderful platform and he backed it up with the numbers from their next competitor.

It's not like the entire keynote was devoted to trash talking. There was plenty of time talking about what Apple is doing.

And Apple isn't the underdog? Please. Windows and Android have won desktop and mobile, period. Mac OS X and iOS are second place platforms.

Apple makes 90% of all profits in mobile.

Apple owns the market for PCs priced over $1,000

I don't think "underdog" means what you think it does.

Yeah but all anyone in the tech press does is compare Android market share to iPhone market share and declare victory for Android. It does not matter that almost all the companies selling Android devices are losing money. It doesn't matter that Google makes almost nothing on Android.

I hope Tim realizes he will be banned from the MacRumors forums for talking smack about Android.  They don't put up with that over there.  Gotta cater to the trolls and the shills (and the Samsung ads).
I got warned on Mac Rumors for quoting him (and the story in the post). No embellishment at all. The moderator totally didn't get it.. Crazy place over there. Android trolls run rampant and I get warned for trolling because I provided a direct quote from the keynote the thread was about.

I always find the comments about people switching weird. Of course people switch, after a while you get board and want something different.

Their moderation is the worst.  I was finally banned (after 10+ years on the site) because I called the Android trolls "sheep."  That's all it took.  Trolling on that site is A-OK as long as it's pro-Google, pro-Samsung or pro-Microsoft.  Yes, on an Apple rumors site.  Bizarre.  Most poorly moderated community I've ever seen.

I don't see any need to launch personal attacks anyway , tag fellow posters using juvenile names (sheep, troll, Google-licker, shill etc) or character assassination (liar, idiot, a##hole), no matter who the audience is.

If you disagree with a post just form an intelligent argument against his/her or ignore them altogether. Name-calling is a detriment to conversation and sharing, adding absolutely nothing to the forum. My 10-year old nephew resorts to playground names when he has a disagreement with a playmate. That so many never seem to have moved beyond that when they reached adulthood is amazing to me.

In a normal context I would agree with you.  But Apple-related forums are rarely "normal" these days in that a significant portion of the forum community exists only to bash Apple, its products and its customers.  It's something I don't see in most of the other Web forums I frequent.

One has to wonder why people who hate Apple spend so much time on Apple forums.  Or those who are dedicated to the Android platform.  Are these people paid?  Are they bored?  Or do they simply love to agitate people?  Hey, choose and use what you like.  Good for you.  But don't come into the enemy camp just to heckle those who choose differently from you.  I certainly don't spend any time on Android forums.  It's annoying and absurd that so much forum traffic here and on MacRumors is spent dueling with the trolls.  If I were a Ford guy and I spent my day in the Chevy forum bashing their products, I'd be drop-kicked in a heartbeat.  Tech-forums, for good or bad, seem a lot more tolerant of that type of trolling.

I guess some people haven't moved past the high school mentality of burning your school logo into the rival school's front lawn.  :grumble:

I thought my meaning was obvious - the highest its been for the past several months, and specifically compared to before WWDC. Its now @ $645. The point was investors didn't "sell everything" after the event as he stated. Its humorous that you decide to split hairs to discredit me instead of acknowledging the obvious falsity of his premise. The stock is the highest its been in 12 months.
