I've already said that I don't wish for any true civilians who are verifiably innocent to die. I don't buy the 80% figure, but it doesn't really matter, because it doesn't change anything if the figure is 10% or 25% or 50% or whatever.

I have also said that 100% of the responsibility for any civilian casualties lies with Hamas, so it doesn't really matter what the figure is. 1,000 or 10,000 or whatever, it makes no difference at all.

I disagree. I don't look at this as Israel trying to make a land grab like Russia did with Crimea. They need to live with Palestine. They have self defense as their main objective. Imagine yourself surrounded in a hostile environment and what you might do if attacked from various adjacent zones. Their reaction seems like a reasonable defensive posture to me, but as I said I don't judge. Let them settle this among themselves. The US does not need to get involved.

The US will always get involved because the Christian conservative believes that the Jews are rightful owners of the land that is Israel. It's only fear of the US and its allies that the surrounding Arab countries don't swarm in and slaughter the Jewish population, and take back Palestine. This is a conflict that's eons old, and there really is no amicable resolution.

My gut tells me that this is not right and that the potential for bad far outweighs any possible good.

The neighboring countries did try to take over Israel and failed. Two state system is the solotuin but Arafat turned that down and Hamas wants to eliminate Israel.

When they were attacked in 1948 by a whole bunch of warmongering countries, Israel was the underdog, vastly outnumbered, yet they still kicked ass. And since then, it's only gone downhill for Israel's enemies.

Israel didn't always have the upper hand, but now that they do, I say tough shit, and good for them!

Actually Isreal attacked first with a preemptive air strike on Egypt.

Actually, I'm talking about the first war, in 1948.

You are referring to the 1967 war.

Errr, somewhere around 300 Russian journalists have been killed since 1993 for 'telling tales' that some people would rather weren't heard.

I think it quite interesting that the Russian government just recently announced a competition within Russia for a way to identify Tor users.

True...F.O. Russia. The entire iOS devices sold in Russia is probably less than that in California alone. Who gives the sh.t about Russia? By the time Cooks gives Russia the source code, Putin will give it out to all Russian companies for free.

Not true, because they've already tried that before, and lost badly each time. Israel is even stronger now and would wipe them all out, with or without the USA.

The attack failed because Isreal was armed to the teeth, and its soldiers much better trained and equipped thanks to the US. They both want the other party gone.

    1) These rivalries go back so far — much farther than the 19th century — that it's impossible to say who cast the first stone.

    2) Doesn't the Qur'an say that Israel is a Jewish state given by Allah?

Not completely accurate. When Israel was attacked in 1948, there was zero support or help from the USA when Israel was attacked by these countries, which all contributed forces.

    Iraq

    Egypt

    Syria

    Lebanon

    Saudi Arabia

    Sudan

    Yemen

    Morocco

Israel kicked all their asses without any help from the US.

I have an idea. Let's revert to law of the jungle.

    2) Doesn't the Qur'an say that Israel is a Jewish state given by Allah?

The rivalry goes back to when Abraham (2000 BCE) had a child with his Arab servant because his wife was already old and barren. God then blessed Sarah (Abraham's wife) with children. Muslims come from Abraham's first son, and the Jews from the second.

The Qur'an does indeed say that Israel is the God given land of the Jews.

They had plenty of US help in the form of weapons and training. Do you think Israeli pilots became that good on their own.

Again, I am not talking about modern times, I was talking about the past. Israel had nothing from the US in 1948 when they were attacked by numerous countries.
