If I was a mod and wanted to better my image or was just bored I could create a alter ego (i.e. - Macintosh, Ca$h, etc.) and constantly have to put myself back in line...
this would give the impression that I was very busy and had to deal with a whole lot of trouble makers, etc. And maybe I could create a few "more alter egos" and pretty much "be the forum"... I could spend the day talking to myself - both agreeing and disagreeing, causing trouble and giving myself (the mod) alot to do.... I could just bring up various comments from watching CNN or FOX or maybe the howards stern show and just converse with myself all day...
2. This was strike 2, apparently. He will be gone permanently if he does his multiple-personalities-battling thing again. It is not permitted for anyone to use multiple handles on the board.

Questions?

I have one.
As of 30 seconds ago there was no such rule on the registration page. What gives? Back under the old AI, quite a few people went by 2 or more handles. Same thing at the current MacNN.
Granted persistent schizophrenetic arguments with one's self could be annoying to the other members, but a couple of 'personas' for the purpose of the odd joke, different presentation/character development etc... has always been the norm I think.
And if this is true, with all due respect, W(hy)TF isn't anything ever done about Ca$h? -- who, by the way, had the decency to start using the handle 'knifecarrier' within about 5 min of the Sept 11 tradgedy.
A related question: Is there a link on this forum to the "terms of use?" I can't find it anywhere, and I can't even find one in my original confirmation e-mail. It'd be nice to be able to find that every now and then if I/we have questions regarding proper use of these boards, but we are already registered.
Well here's the text from the registration agreement:

Nothing in there about multiple personas. I also find the language about profanity and vulgarity needlessly strong. There seems to be a moving line on that one (which is fine) but it has in the past been used as a, shall we say 'figure-skating' type tactic.
Interestingly, the stuff about knowingly false posts ought to have gotten Kormac banned about a dozen times over. Oh well.

Matsu, let this serve as a warning to you to chill out with your entire Kormac rhetoric. It gets old, and everyone knows you don't like him. We would have no grounds to ban Kormac on (as you seem to think we would) for "posting knowingly false information" - we have no idea what is correct or not in a rumor-oriented environment such as this.
However, deliberately falsifying information and identities as Macintosh has done on multiple occasions seems to fall under this, no?
Note that one account is allowed per email address. It's a limitation of the UBB to only restrict by email, not IP address, but the spirit of that restriction is to keep people to one account. I'm going to try to revamp the user agreement to mimic the Ars Technica Posting Guidelines; probably the best rules for a forum ever written, period.
I like the boards that automatically change profanity to something silly. Then when you get people with low IQs using such language all you get is "you're a poop" or something like that. Its funny to read.

Maybe they should install a Vchip in our keyboards. Evertime we type a naughty word our fingers will get zapped.

with all respect to the good members at macNN's forums... but those forums suck. Please don't use them as an example of what people should be allowed to get away with or act like and what rules they have. If we wanted this to be like MacNN's forums we would be at MacNN's forums.

Hrrrm... well how would you know that?

Uhhh... I knew that because Jonathan said they were different IPs.
