Macintosh: Reinstate or not?

Geez...I missed out on the whole Macintosh thing. I skimmed through some of his recent posts and I have to say I can sympathize with him somewhat. I can get a little hot-headed at times (BTW I appologize for my ranting about my CD-RW drive---I have calmed down ) and know how he feels.

When the Ti book first came out, I ordered one the same day. It was like a month and a half after they were announced and I still had not received it. I was calling like every two weeks and being told it would ship soon, and it never did. Finally I was told it had been cancelled. I asked if I could re-order and be put at the top of the waiting list for all my waiting, and they said they couldn;t do it. So, I just bought the iBook and I am glad I did--I really like it.

Point is, i see where he is coming from. I agree he got too far out of hand. I hope he gets another chance.

P.S.--this is fantastic site, and really only one of two I ever visit (a Pittsburgh Pirates fan forum being the other) and the occasional visit to the Home Theater Forum.

Two personas aren't any more false than one. A UBB coding quirk does not an explicit rule make. Most people have more than one e-mail adress, I don't think you can expect them to infer one persona as a rule any more than they might interpret the UBB coding as one of many limitations of software. I'm pretty sure you make a stronger case for 'knowingly false information' refering to the content of posts than the content of user ID handles. If those were to be believed, then apparently we come from backgrounds as diverse as science fantasy writing, anime, and the incarnated spirits of dead pop-stars.

As for Kormac. I think it was Gorgonzola who asked me to tone down the ass-l__king fan club stuff. Fine. You won't hear any of it from me. But, if we're going to start applying the 'user agreement' then why is Kormac so above reproach? If a person crafts an entire persona designed to foster the impression of his credibility only to consistently and repeatedly be completely wrong, then that strongly suggests they're lying. And furthermore, doing so in the context of post content, which the agreement clearly implies.

I don't want to talk about Kormac anymore, I only brought it up to serve as a real example, counter to this one, because it is something that has been occuring here. That's all. Nor am I defending Macintosh, I'm just giving some examples.

However, this 'let this serve as a warning to you' business is a little too strong. You know I'm right. You won't do anything about it because a few members of the fan club probably generate a lot of hits, and hits are good for something I suppose. That's your priveledge. You have your favorites.

I fail to see why you feel the need to get threatening with me. And what would you do that a quick change of IP and re-registration wouldn't fix? Wouldn't it be better if we just played nice? I think it would. So once again, if my anti-Kormac sentiment offends any of you, sorry. You should know better and I'll leave it at that.

What the hell are you talking about.

I was warning you. Fanboys? Look, you're the only one who cares about Kormac anymore...

I've cut the percieved profanity. So why exactly were you warning me? It was a useful example. Don't answer if you don't want to. I know that arguing with authority (isn't that a wonderful irony of the internet) is pointless. So I will, here, adopt the same apathetic attitude that has thus far seen me go serenely through life: You're right. I concede.

hey horned frog...you're over at HTF too?? i used to visit there like 3-4 times a day...but i was spending too much money on home theater and like 400 dvd's in 2 years....so i started coming here 3-4 times a day and now i am spending too much on computers...thank god i can't get coke over the internet or i would probably be doing that next :o ...g

these are the only two forums i go to (AI and HTF)....i actually like visiting sites with mods (at least if they are reasonible)...it gets old very quick when children get on a site and start flame wars over things they know nothing about....still visit HTF a couple of times a week, but have actually started renting dvds (at least sometimes) instead of buying..g

ps...glad to have you back macintosh....just keep it cool for a while....hope all is well with you and your family...g

I will be following your career with great interest, young Macintosh

Yeah, HTF is pretty cool, though for som reason it seems like there really isn;t much to talk about any more as far as DVD goes...most major movies are out (except the big thrtee trilogies--SW, Indy, and BTTF) and tehre is nothing like DIVX to kick around anymore. Apple talk is much more up my alley I still buy tons of DVDs (just got Don't Say A Word", "Used Cars," and 2 "Roughnecks: The Starship Troopers Chronicles." I too have 400+ DVDs

Also started buying a lot more music...I was downloading albums like crazy off of AG, but all of a sudden the quality went to shit there..i was getting songs that said 192 and it was clearly about 56k, I was getting incmplete songs, and live versions when they were suposed to be studio recordings, etc. And being on a 56k, it just wasn;t worth it.

got to this thread a little late.

    Thought.

*deleted* lots of hypocrisy about some of the -non macintosh- threads lately that have not been deleted or had members banned,

But If I create 2 accounts and talk to myself, I am Banned. Whooooo.

    Whats wrong with people.

IF YOU DON'T LIKE WHAT SOMEONE HAS POSTED---CLOSE THE WINDOW OR SKIP THEIR POST. YOU DON'T HAVE TO READ IT.

And why the hell was mastergating considered as strike 1. WTF was wrong with it? I think that some people like to assert their authority a bit much when someone has taken them for a ride.

Now that we had some time to collectively gather our bunched panties, there is one very good reason why the one IP per user name is not a great idea.

Lots of people have more than one computer user in the home. I know my brother very occasionally posts here using my name. Since neither of us cares, I don't have a problem with it. And I'm sure it's far more common for 1 person to post under 2 names than for 2 people to post under 1 name, but you get the idea. The e-mail restriction makes more sense than an IP restriction since many homes have more than one user on a machine.

    MarkUK,

What's wrong with this is some people here like to have a serious discussion. People who act like Macintosh are only amusing themselves and are disruptive to others.

That makes what they are doing wrong and unfair to others. The only protection that we have here is some sense of order. Otherwise childish posters would run rampant here and there would be no point to this forum.

I don't mind a little fun or someone's brother posting but this goes way beyond that. If you look at it in a macrocosmic sense that's why we have civilization. It's to prevent chaos and anarchy. Don't like it? Move to the jungle.
