Apple's PR team are showing their chops.  This jacks the iWatch hype to 11.

I worked in Switzerland for 8 years, had a great time, the standard of living there is amazing and all I can say is Switzerland has nothing to fear from Apple in terms of a watch. You do reliaze that there are several very large companies based in Switzerland including the BISS bank. Probably the most powerful institution in the whole world. Oh and Switzerland is not neutral, it runs the world.

It sounds like something I would have heard around the early 21th century…

Having a Swiss watch (not a very expensive one), I cannot see a watch with a battery threatening Swiss horologists. A Swiss watch is for life- an Apple iwatch (which will no doubt be really cool) is only good until the battery becomes weedy or until the newest version comes out.
An horologists can repair your watch, Apple will eventually stop repairing old Iwatches, if they repair them at all.

Oh well, there's always tourism, cuckoo clocks, cheese, chocolate, and Swiss Army Knives to fall back on.

And raclette too.  Rustic yet extremely yummy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raclette

Sooo, anyone think Apple would use that Swiss railway clock design they licensed a couple years ago for their main watch face? Wikipedia says Apple paid $22.4 million USD in January of this year despite the design being removed from iOS 7 last year.

If Jony Ive is saying something to the effect that the entire country of Switzerland is in trouble, then this sounds freaking awesome! The iWatch will be huge!

Let's crush Switzerland! Apple will lead the way! I never did care much for "neutral" countries anyhow. It's a bit of a cop out, and pretty cowardly, if you ask me.

No doubt. I like chocolate a lot.

I'm not too familiar with Swiss women, the check box on my conquest list for Swiss women is still empty, but I'm sure that they're ok. Perhaps I will find out one day.

With utmost respect, censorship has a place in the world. In this particular instance I, and several others, are of the opinion that if an adult isn't mature enough to express an opinion without inciting hatred, spreading xenophobia & just being a douche, then they should be censored. Sometimes the world would be a better place without some opinions ever being expressed. The original comment by Apple][ contributed nothing to the forum, & even less to making the world a better place.

I don't see how Switzerland Swiss industry is going to be in trouble because of the iWatch. There will be always a market for very expensive $1000 and over of classic watches. Now if the consumer is looking for a "connected" device or monitoring device as it seems that it is the way of the future, then they will adapt and follow by investing in sensor technology as did the jawbone, misfit, nike and so on to put them in their "platinum casings"

Yep, sure. It doesn't change the fact that those words are already out there. It doesn't change or explain the motivation for having written them.

For all of the well-reasoned posts by Apple][, the increasing frequency of ones like this are unnecessary & disappointing.

    Cheers mate.

They may be unnecessary and disappointing by your standards but the moderators of this forum seem to think the content is not worth removing, warning, or banning anybody over.

Learn to ignore content you disagree with. Or failing that, use the technical option to do so.

One of the best features about this forum is in seeing verbal jousters like Slurpy give some deserving yahoo a tongue lashing. If you have the usual suspect on ignore, you miss the reason for the exchange. Ignoring has always seemed like a cop-out to me, but i'd stress that "to me," because others have no interest in the brawls here.

Usually I stay away from the obvious political topics, because I know that ][ is going to be bellowing like a stuck pig, and it's the equivalent of watching TV wrestling. Very high sweaty male "ick" factor, but I would never tell somebody to use the ignore feature.
