Basically, this report just confirms what most of us all knew.... that the majority of Android users, use mobile phones that are not running, nor can run the latest OS as well as being technically out of date.
We have been seeing Android market share going up dramatically over the last few years to overtake iOS market share, but we all knew this was down to a huge number of out-of-date, lower specced phones.
Yes, I agree that most of these phones won't actually be 3 years old, but will in fact be quite new (ie within the last 1-2 years), but will be the cheaper phones with what Facebook class as 2011 tech.
But who cares what age or price the points the phones are at. The point is they are popular and a lot of people don't want $1000 phones. Believe it or not, some people treat the phone as just another throwaway product that just needs to do something simple. Do you purchase the most expensive car, microwave, toaster, fridge, etc? And if not, why not? Are you going to settle for a junky, second or third-best toaster? Only low end people buy low end toasters.
I use the Facebook app on my iPhone 5S, which everyone knows is no slouch. The Facebook app is a piece of garbage. Most posts come up as a blank gray square. Maybe like this story claims, their app is selectively not showing me their videos even though it's capable of viewing everything they can put on their and more. Their app is so bad that I recently decided not to use it on my phone at all, and not due to performance reasons either. What's the point of an app that displays 20% of the posts and 80% gray squares?

Well Google/Android and primarily Samsung care. I don't. You buy a phone to do what you want it to do. The difference is that we are hearing all about how much market share Android has...well in fact, it's only

Google/Android care! They are the ones showcasing their superiority with Marketshare. It's obvious that it's affecting Samsung as well seeing as sales of their high-end phones are down and sales of the low-end phones are up. They aren't making as much profit as they are selling more lower-end phones with less markup. This causes a problem for Android and app/game development for the platform seeing as the majority of the Android Marketshare are for less powerful or older devices, which will force developers into making dumbed down versions of their apps and games.
The next big jump is to 64bit. Apple has over a year of an advantage in that department so far seeing as the iPhone 5s (released in September 2013) started off there and the iPhone 6 and 6plus have continued in that vain. So far there are no major 64bit Android based phones on the market....what will be the first....Galaxy S6? And in any case, more high-end phones sales are going to iOS than Android, so the lower-end of the market is seeing Android sales only.
This will begin to become apparent within the next 6-12 months when Apple enforces their 64bit version strategy and I can honestly see them pushing a 64bit only version of their iOS from 9 or X onwards. Having an 18 month plus time advantage over 64bit Android-based devices is a huge margin.
All in all, a very interesting statistic from FB which just backs up what the general opinion is with Android-based devices. So in short, it's not a problem having cheap and expensive devices, but when the majority of users/buyers of one particular format is predominately buying cheap, it will remain cheap.
You can find Android phones that can access Facebook for under 50$. The statistc dont suprise me. Their market share will obviously continue to shrink just the way it exploded some years ago. People are tired of crappy hardware and crappy software frustrating their daily lifes just to save few hundred $. At the end your phone is much more that a microwave or toaster where you can say "Ok, Ill buy the cheap one because who cares...". We use our smarthphones hundreds of times a day and it is important that it work flawlessly. Yeah, many people cant afford the expensive iPhone, but for something that will be in your pocket for the next couple of years, its worth spending a bit more cash and at the end it will still have some resell value, not like your shoes or cloths, or other personal stuff you may have. Android is fine for basic stuffs and rly casual use.

Now I see the misunderstanding. I was referring to this one. I really didn't see the others. Apologies
no problem

Only android people still uses facebook.
it looks pretty even as of a year ago.
Android may be higher now, but there are surely iOS users using Facebook. I'm one o the,
It is foolish to stereotype the political affiliations of all Apple users as being a certain way.
But it's not foolish to do the same with Android users? Who's foolish now?
