What would really piss off Samsung would be Tim Cook offering BB $3.75B and having Blackberry accept.

Hey, at least Samsung is now buying its innovations, instead of just stealing them.

They should just buy Apple and be done with it. Apple is doomed anyway.

They still have $3b assets after liabilities so they can hold out a while longer as long as they don't have crazy losses like last year but if the losses are similar to 2014, they're bankrupt before the year is out. I think they'd be best to sell up because it's just downhill for them if they go it alone.

They could just change their name to "Redberry"...?

This is primarily about getting out from under Google. Samsung needs to own it's OS if they want to make any money.

True that! Samsung is not going anywhere running Android, and Android being controlled by the three stooges at Google. From what little I've heard the BB OS is a respectable OS. What will ultimately hold Samsung or BB is that neither company has a long-term plan to make their platforms as compelling as Apple's plans for iDevices. They just can't see the future as clearly. Samsung, for one, sees marketing as a way to garner market share... yet, tens of billion dollars later, whatever market share they have can disappear over night because there's little user loyalty there. BB used to have a lot of loyal users, but they let their platform fall way behind and had some HUGE system failures at the worst possible time.

The only reason I can think of is that Samsung wants to get into corporate services before Apple and IBM become huge.

Buying BB would give Samsung some credibility in the enterprise and government markets. Right now, besides Apple, the Samsung phone with KNOX, and the BB phone line are the only phones the U.S. Government will buy. No phones from Microsoft, or any other Android manufacturer. Buying BB would give them more to offer, especially if the government gave Samsung the stink-eye over KNOX being less secure then originally thought. As an aside, Apple was the ONLY tablet approved for government purchases. With MS pitching the Surface Pro 3 as an alternative to Apple's laptop, maybe MS will skate a few Surfaces in under that disguise.

Another value I see for Samsung buying BB is Samsung has no established connections in business and government like BB has in place. That would be worth a lot in terms of setting the clock ahead as much as a year or so. However, the race has been on for a while, now is not a good time to be lacing up one's shoes with any idea of winning the gold. The comparison with the Nokia and MS marriage is a good one. That acquisition took a while and just was too too late to be fruitful... the sammy/BB marriage is coming even much later than that.

I think a better analogy would be a a football game

Apple is up by 35 to 17 in 3rd qtr. Samsung has the ball and the Qtrsback just thru a pass which was intercepted at the 40 yard line and apple just returned it for a touchdown

They should really call this the new Galaxy:

the Galaxy PICK6 because that is what they have just thrown in the marketplace

Beats was pocket change for apple (150B cash in Bank)

Samsung spending 7.5B on BBRY would be a lot more for them (60B cash reserves) approx 6 times as much

They could cherry pick the parts they want and sell off the parts they don't want.

I have often thought that Apple could buy BBRY and bring the mail  services business and government connections into iOS/IBM and,    sell QNX to Ford and any other parts off as well to the highest bidder. But it won't happen

Well, somebody made out with a nice 30% upside in Blackberry today.

Perhaps they will publish that Google will buy Blackberry tomorrow.

Apple could sell or simply scuttle QNX and offer ford iOS or offer QNX to Ford, Apple could use BB email and services to replace parts of their awful Cloud and perhaps work with IBM on that with BB government contacts

I sold $11 calls and $12 feb calls which will expire worthless or I will buy them back even sooner. Thanks to the rumor monger. I think there might be someone other than Samesong in on this rumor.

I hope the SEC investigates the people who staged the rumor and if anyone in they or anyone in their family sent emails out around that date the the news was released was doing option trading I hope they get prosecuted for it. If I was one of them I and I had done this I would be sweating right now?

BlackandBlueBerry would be more apt, the beating they've had from Apple.

Where's all of those that like to scream "stock manipulation". Because if anything in recent news even remotely smells like stock manipulation, it's this. Sounds like someone needed to get out of BB (with a profit or as little loss as possible) before Apple release any good news, about it's IBM partnership, during their upcoming earnings report.

This is bad... especially having a foreign outfit owning Blackberry's level of encryption.

Hope Samsung does this, they will be $7.5B lighter and won't have a fucking clue what to do with BB. They're flailing around, desperately looking for a golden goose that will save them from their downward spiral.

piss off Samsung. BB will pull through, they have good engineers and are doing an apple at the moment. Their's a niche for them and by God they're meticulously carving it out. Losses are losses but an uphill struggle is just that, loss ridden.

Beats is the most popular headphone company in the world, has a fuckload of brand value, sells premium products, has excellent branding, and makes a massive profit.

Blackberry is.., um.. I'll get back to you on that one.

I gave up because the SEC isn't going to do anything about any of these supposed news bureaus or analysts spouting BS and not having to stand behind what they said. This is a case where the SEC should invalidate all BB transactions and see who sold right before BB came out saying it was bogus. There's your manipulator. Of course they won't do anything about it, unless it affected their pocketbook.
