Its a good thing. GWB uses a Mac because he needs his computer to be as user friendly as it can be. Clinton use one because he is cool like that.

You live in ****ing Denmark, how do you know jack about how intelligent our president actually is. I'm sick of people taking cheap shots at the leader of the free world. Someone PROVE to me that he really is a dumbass please.
Do I really need to use smilies every time I try to make a joke? I think Clinton is the smarter of those two but if I really wanted to go into a long discussion about this issue I would take it outside. I won´t argue with you here. If you think its important enough to make it into an argument please make a thread in AO and I will join you there.

I know, but the problem is that the people that pick on me (or whatever you want to call it) won't let it up. They treat me the same way they do the homosexuals at school, like dirt, all because I use a different computer. I need something to fend them off, and they all admire, for some freaky reason, admire celebs. If you have a better suggestion than that, please give it.

Pal, with all due respect: GROW UP. I can't believe you care that much. **** 'em. You're going to learn, sooner or later, that spending time to impress certain types of people just isn't something worthy of your time and efforts.
My God, this sounds like a nightmare version of "Beverly Hills 90210"!
Be a man and ignore their silly asses. And yes, I was young and in high school once too. And I did what I advocate above. My friends were my friends and the rest? Clique-y jackballs who held no interest or use for me.
Seriously, again: what do you care? Are you getting your ass kicked over it or otherwise physically assaulted due to your Mac loyalty? If not, then it's hardly worth worrying about.
Increasing the volume of Mac users increases the viability/utility of the Mac platform. We get more users...we get more developers...we get more software...we get more hardware...we get better prices...we get more users...
And Groverat...relentless arguing converted Lord Baldrick, didn't it? ...
Not on the whole "we need more Mac users..." thing. Duh. Everyone knows that.
But I don't think this particular band of clique-ish high school bashers warrants any special efforts or back-breaking acrobatics to convince them.
They're just being dipsticks. Probably is no reasoning with them...they're just getting off on screwing around with iDude. I guarantee it.
Of course the Mac platform should have lots of users, for all the reasons you talk about. But iDude's case doesn't exactly fall into "critical" territory. The future of the Mac hardly hangs on the shoulders of some high school screwheads razzing a classmate.
<snip> I would say that people that openly use macs are in quite a similar situation to that of people that are openly homosexual. <snip>

Wow. I feel really sorry for people who use Macs and are gay.
Ah, but you missed my comment to Groverat. It does work, even on the most biased teeny-boys. And converting them is important. Apple's marketshare is 2.7% and falling if we don't. I've convinced many PC stalwarts in Berkeley to by Macs...most of them go for iBooks. It works, and it is worth it especially if you know you can win.
Lord Baldrick was vehemently anti-Apple at Ars Battlefront, but now he owns an iBook and has pretty much nothing but praise for it. MWNH wasn't an Apple fan either before he bought his Cube. Kurt-O of BattleFront also bought a Cube and hangs out in #macintosh on the Ars IRC server.
I've got pretty much all of my staff lusting after Macs...having an iMac in the lab to demo helps though. And since they're all UNIX hozers, dazzling them with the Terminal usually hooks them immediately.
If you can convert a screwhead teenager, you can convert anybody.
Not that it really matters, but radiohead use Macs. They've made several of their videos using FCP. Fred is also the voice on a couple of their songs. Beck uses one too. BT, a popular DJ mixes using one.

Believe me. The last thing I want to do is spend time with these people. I just get stuck having to sit by them in class where I can't really get away or ignore them. I've tried to just laugh and look away, but they must see that differently than I do, because they just assault me more. It's no good trying to impress them, because, as someone said, all they like to do is play games, which is the only thing the mac isn't good for.
G4dude, I would lie, but I honestly know nothing about the PC and have no desire to. I am, however, going to be building a PC in the next few years because that is what my high school uses.
Pscates, I'm not sure they are just screwing with me. They seem pretty serious that the PC is better. Of course, they admit that they haven't used a mac since like an LC 2. The big thing is MHZ. Try explaining to a 14 year old that a 1ghz system is faster than a 2ghz system and you'll know what I mean. I have been able to convince some of the more liberal ones that the mac is ok though.
I agree with Eugene that it is important to convert these teens or at least make them leff closed minded. They are the ones who in 10 years will be buying computers, and it's important to make them aware of the mac now.
Another problem you have is that Macs now really aren't faster than PC's. Tests have shown that a Dual 1 ghz is NOT as fast as a P4 2.4ghz. So your speed argument isn't going to hold up. What people seem to forget here is that this is at school. Just walking away or ignoring them doesn't work when you see these people several times a day. Ignore them and you are a "pussy" and therefore a bigger loser. It seems to me that you, iDude, have spent way too much time defending the mac platform to people that really don't care about Macs. This was your mistake. If they aren't going to listen, don't try to convert them. But it's too late for that. What is needed here is a solution. Whatever you do, DON'T GO RUNNING TO THE PRINCIPAL. I suggest you try an exchange sort of thing. Tell one of the "bullies" that you will use a PC for one full week and they have to use a Mac for a week. At the end of the week, you come to your own conclusions and it's over.

I'm not trying to convert anyone. Especially a teenager (we barely have money for a shirt, let alone a computer). I'm just trying to tread water.
That's a good idea, but where am I going to get a PC and where is the guy going to get a mac? We can't just switch for a week.

Not knowing the leader of Pakistan months before the Primaries, his Yale grades, shall I go on?
I can't believe these don't have anything better to do with their time!
Do these people like NIN/Trent Reznor? He's a huge Mac user. Many musicians that they like probably use Macs! The band Garbage uses them, tons of groups. I suspect The Chemical Brothers use them, many electronic musicians use them. I'll try to think of some others...
I can't think of any celebrites that use them though one basketball star i recently heard is really into his iPod. I forget who that is.
Macs can be seen all over TV and movies, though Apple apparently has to pay for that exposure, but don't tell them that!
Futurama's and Simpson's creator Matt Groening always makes references to Mac especially in Futurama, so i'm sure he's a big Mac user

Unlike most people here, iDude, I've been out in the real world and understand that there are people out there that harass you because of what computer you use. how do figure Macs suck for browsing the web!? what drug are you on?

Lord Baldrick is a Maclot now? Yikes!

He's not a Maclot, but he owns an iBook.
As for celebrities, Trent Reznor of NIN, the dude from Bush, the dude from Smash Mouth, Shaq, Sinbad, all I can think of at the moment.
