As an Apple shareholder as well I don't believe Apple cares, or has any reason to care what we think about anything.  If we didn't buy the stock from an IPO they didn't sell it to us.

If Apple were a cute woman, I would kiss her.

I can get a Sport, play golf, do Yoga, etc., and buy a Milanese Loop to go with my regular day-to-day.  This is PERFECT.  Thank you Apple.

    Precisely.

    Women are the target market.

Well.. That is not entirely true..
U can take your watch and go running without the iphone .. And it will give u realtime stats and tracking.
Its capable of being calibrated to u .. so most tracking functions can work without the gps... With its onboard accelerometer and gyro .

But for longterm performance tracking the data needs to be synced with the iphone end of the software.

Plus u can listen to music.. And keep track of time.

Thats just for now... Till developers comeup with more native apps !

If u want GPS or connectivity u need your iphone !

dearest stockholder, why on earth would you go running w/ your iphone and watch? the activity tracking of the watch is more than adequate to track your distance and steps and pipe that data into Health, just as the pedometer on today's iphones are fine for steps. do you require GPS maps of your route? simply load your watch up w/ some music, pair your apple pay card, and go for your run.

indeed. it's BS's--er, typo, BF's--attempt to emasculate those here who said they plan on buying one. because all his trolling arguments are falling on deaf ear's, he's now trying to suggest those interested in buying the apple watch aren't "real men".

you should really go back in time and tell Steve Jobs that, since apple under him decided to release an ipod that required a mac. oops.

And don't forget how the "market movers" spoke under Jobs by almost ways tanking the stock. 2%! The sky is falling! BTW, I have red across the board today with an average drop of more than 2%.

Not possible, the Apple Watch has a unique locking mechanism woven into the band that attaches the band to the case.

So the Apple Watch is not compatible with aftermarket bands.

It is what it is. But the long wrist strap from the original Pebble well exceeds 240mm. Does Apple not want fat Apple geeks to get more active?

    So my options are:

Put my wrist on a diet. (These things take time.)

Punch an extra hole in a sport watch strap.

Try and buy some extra links from someone who doesn't need them for their link bracelet.

    Go after market.

The classic strap does not appear to have room for more holes.

Are any others faced with the same problem?

You will have to go with the Link Bracelet and add extra links to increase the length, or buy a second Link Bracelet and connect both Link Bracelets together to increase the length.

I think you misunderstand what I mean. If a person buys the Apple Watch edition and another Apple band to go with it, they could sell a bad they no longer wanted to somebody with an Apple Watch Sport for instance. People who own Apple watches are in no way barred from trading or reselling bands. Perhaps "aftermarket" wasn't the appropriate term, however "used" seemed wrong as well. "second-hand"?

Well, all Apple Watch models comes with the sport band out the box. You can buy the Apple Watch Steel with a different band than the sport band, which means that you won't have the sport band to sell.

The only way you can buy the Apple Watch with the sport band is if you buy the Apple Watch sport with the sport band, and you buy an extra band as an accessory.

The thing about that, is that it is unlikely that the person will not use the sport band, since they can use it when exercising or when doing everyday activity, and then swapping out the sport band for the non-sport band, to wear the Apple Watch in a more fashionable setting.

Since the sport band comes standard with the Apple Watch, it is highly unlikely that people will buy one second hand; but will most likely buy multiple colors of the sport bands from Apple, since they are only $49 each.

Anyway, buying a pre-worn Apple Band is like buying pre-worn underwear or pre-worn shoes; which to say is disgusting.

Apple has gone next level with their pricing..

so get the $349 model, like we are. it's for normal consumers.

for $400-500 you can also buy a whole lot of donuts. or a really good bottle of wine (not whine). whats the relevance?

Thanks for clearing some things up.

...so along with that, which functions would or would not be active?

    - walking/running distance - yes.

    - step distance/interval/pace. yes.

    - biking distance - no.

    - direction tracking of any kind - no.

    - way points of any kind - no.

    - any other important functions/data?

But since most bikers, fisherman, hikers carry their iPhones then who has issues of a standalone watch? Basically the runner.

But for 99% of runners, step distance/pace is really all that is needed anyway...or am I off base?

...and with step distance/pace shouldn't the watch be able to analyze and give evaluation of your current running workout and quite possibly have stored information on the last 10 workouts (or so)?...all without your iPhone.

Did you watch the keynote?  Obviously not.  You can run with the apple watch without the phone and it tracks your time, distance moved, pace, heart rate and many other functions completely without your phone.  The phone is only needed for gps and nfc and phone calls.  When back in range with your phone it reports that data to the health app on the phone.  Please stop spreading FUD and misinformation.

Im a runner and very excited about the watch and will buy one when it comes out for precisely all the things you say it won't do without the phone but does.  Hell it even allows you to have 2gig of music to play while you run to play with bluetooth over your headphones.  It has an accelerometer that tracks your distance, it learns much like the nike+ sensor for your shoe.  Once you train it to your stride there pretty damn accurate.  Heck even the M7 and M8 in the iPhones can track your distance.

You are dead on.  As I said in my other post, I am a runner and the watch by itself will track your distance through the accelerometer just like the nike+ sensor did for your shoe.  All without your iPhone.

You just said the iPod, iPhone and iPad are all duds because they required a Mac or WinPC running iTunes to be fully operable.

At least no one will ever accuse you of not being a freethinker with those comments. Unfortunatey for rest of us we're burdened by logic and reason.

Im not sure about how many sessions can be stored in the watch.. But i believe all else to be true !
