wow, I guess I'm not surprised that privileged men on the internet don't understand (or choose to ignore) the fact that a lot of porn is used to fund organized crime.  And that in many countries women/men on the streets with no options and no laws/no motivation to protect them are rounded up by street gangs and used in porn.  Even in first world countries, there's plenty of porn that's created in very questionable/exploitative circumstances.

That's where the distinction here is for me: HBO's soft-core porn isn't likely to be produced in these types of situations (far too high profile a company to risk that), but it's impossible to tell with hard-core porn from small producers unless there is legal documentation for the conditions used to produce it.

Always glad to see the puritanical views.

No, there is absolutely no problem with porn - most adults around the world enjoy it. Don't like it? Don't watch it. And keep your own holier-than-thou BULLSHIT to yourselves.

There is nothing wrong with porn.

This is the point I stopped taking this article seriously.

Last time I checked, most porn (18 & up) is legal. That pesky 1st amendment.

Now, if you want to see people shot to death, that's the fun 2nd amendment. No problem there.

    2. The work must describe or depict, in an obviously offensive way, sexual conduct, or excretory functions.

    3. The work as a whole must lack "serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific values".

Again, everyone is entitled to their Opinion about what should be censored, and that probably would vary from a person and their neighbor, relative or even significant other, but Opinions don't alter the facts. if people don't agree with the law then there are processes in place to affect change.

actually, that was a ruling on the legal definition of obscenity

as in "I don't know obscenity, but I can tell you when I see it. Maybe I better take another look..."

What a bizarre article. It lowered my opinion of the whole website. Very strange to see a piece like this from what's usually a good news site. But everyone can have a bad day. I hope for a course correction back to normal.

It's high time Apple becomes more porn and privacy friendly! It's no one's business -- including Apple's -- what a user uses Apple devices for. Any file on an Apple device should be hidable at the user's discretion. Apple TV is almost unusable because iTune's intersperses your S&M loops with clips of the grandkids and puppies. If you don't want to sell porn, fine. Otherwise, grow up, Apple!

There are few things worse than a prudish female who loathes porn and who was indoctrinated from an early age to learn that porn or nudity is evil. These people have psychological issues, not to mention various sexual malfunctions.

Funny, but in my experience, it is the fathers and dominated mothers, plus religious zealots that are behind this indoctrination of young women. I don't think that you could make any case that men don't dominate most cultures. So of course, you blame the woman, who also has to risk that pesky pregnancy thingy.

Republican and Democratic Presidential Conventions are always a good business opportunity for prostitutes, but they typical find the Republican convention goers to be much more into fetishes.

    Go figure.

In practically all religions, it is the men that are in control and in charge.

I don't disagree that it is men that are usually behind the indoctrination and the primitive views. I wasn't disputing that.

You can do whatever the **** you want with your Apple device, and Apple doesn't give a shit what you use it for, but Apple can also set whatever policies it wants for the product it sells in its own store. Apple is not obligated to sell you porn. "Grow up, Apple"? Really? Something tells me the people running Apple are infinitely more grown up and mature than you can ever hope to be, as evidenced by your nonsensical rant.

It seems to be quite high usage among women, which really shouldn't be surprising, women and men have a lot more in common than people thought decades ago and it's higher with younger women, likely because they grew up with technology:

    http://www.christianitytoday.com/women/2013/october/secret-womens-porn-problem.html?paging=off

Women are making some of the porn too because they know what they want to see. 50 Shades of Grey was written by and directed by women. If a guy made it, it would be more like:

Stats say they make up 1/3 of all visits to porn sites. Plus the actresses are obviously voluntarily taking on the work.

One porn actress described it as though it was like if someone stuck their finger in your ear and getting paid to do that, it's just not their ear that's being poked. It's society that treats it differently because of common behaviour.

That's not to say it's wholesome though. Steve Jobs was firmly against it and said that once you have kids you'd understand (slightly ironic considering how kids are made):

    http://techcrunch.com/2010/04/19/steve-jobs-android-porn/
    http://techland.time.com/2010/05/17/steve-jobs-vs-porn/

Junk food is convenient and sometimes cheap but it's not wholesome. Porn is like junk food where you can get fast, short-term relief but it's not like a lasting relationship. It seems to be having a bad effect on relationships too:

    http://www.medicaldaily.com/disturbing-new-survey-reveals-how-porn-damaging-relationships-244335

It can not only replace a relationship for some people, it builds expectations, which can fall short in the real world. I don't think Apple, Google, Amazon, Microsoft and so on want to earn a reputation as smut peddlers but it makes sense to maintain that stance wherever they can. HBO will want to offer the same content as the cable channels to persuade subscribers over but it sets a precedent for other TV channels.

I agree with your point, except that people getting shot to death or stabbed to death or having their throats slits, whatever -- that's all the 1st amendment. :)

    Otherwise, I couldn't agree more.

    I didn't think so.

My sister is a nurse practitioner and had a friend that worked in the border area on Utah/Arizona known for Polygamists. Their kids tend to be "dull", as in low IQ and most are on some kind of Federal or State support, as are the mothers, that are pretty much zombies. Nobody wants to clean up the mess as their is concern that it would turn into a conflagration with lots of casualties. I'm guessing that only the most notable of the Polygamist are targeted by law enforcement.

People have absolutely no problem finding porn with out it being on the app store. If Apple allowed porn in the App Store, all of a sudden there would be 5,000,000 pro apps in the first week. Then Apple would be in the business of deciding which kind of porn to allow and how hardcore and bizarre the porn could get. They would have to come up with guidelines about where a penis could go and what kinds of object can be inserted into which hole.

Better just to let folks use the browser and google to get their porn.
