They could've even made the mouse like the Watch with inductive charging, so that if you had to, you could charge on an inductive mousepad.
or, they could keep it simpler -- and you can charge while you get your morning coffee. then when you go for the day, plug it in....and forget about it FOR A MONTH.
Ah, yes, such attention to detail ... months to get the sound just right. Must be soothing comfort to the legion of people in the Apple support forums looking for help for the myriad ways their El Capitan upgrade has shafted them. There are so many posts that only about one in 20 is getting an answer.
A little more attention to detail in the OS department might be more appreciated than how swish a mouse sounds.
I'd think a mag safe USB charging / data cable would be ideal, and it would attach to the front of the mouse so you could use it conventionally.
I'm expecting a third party lightning "docking charger" to appear.
I'd expect you'd be able to use Apple's Lightning Dock in a pinch. May not be the neatest solution, but the design should allow for it. Maybe they'll do an even more generic version for charging your mouse/keyboard/trackpad.
The same way your router is plugged into the wall, but still provides your "wireless" Internet.
What's the difference if I lay my mouse on a "wireless" charging pad or I plug something into it? And for all those bitching about not being able to use the mouse while it's charging you certainly wouldn't be able to do that it it was wireless charging. Honestly I don't get why this is a big deal. Plug lightening in for 2 minutes to get a 9 hour charge or 2 hours to get a one month charge doesn't seem like a big deal to me.
no. it takes two minutes to charge for 9 hours of use. it will take you longer to walk to the can and back.
as for putting it on the front, if you had one or even just looked at it youll understand why -- the front & back is all glass, for the touchpad.
I think the reason they didn't put it on the front was purely a visual design esthetic driven decision. You don't have to turn the keyboard upside down to charge it. The mouse just doesn't have a flat surface anywhere along the sides. Upside down it is really wobbly and depending on the table surface it might eventually scratch the glass. I think a charging cradle like my Logitech would be more elegant. Just my opinion.

the magic keyboard 2 doesnt plug into the bottom because the front isnt a glass touch surface.
the ipad 2-4 didnt have a flat surface either, but they still placed the port there, on the curve. so they arent afraid of ports in curves.
im sticking to the fact that its a glass touch surface. putting a hole in it would likely create a weak point. and the touchpad, tho im not sure how far forward the touchpad goes in the glass.
I wonder if people will feel dirty "turning the mouse over and plugging in a cable"... sounds invasive to the poor mouse's privacy! " src="http://forums-files.appleinsider.com/images/smilies//lol.gif" />
Very funny! Usually it takes two people just to hold a mouse's small back legs apart.

The curve on the iPad is not too extreme. On the mouse it is a sharp edge. The other thing is that the mouse clicks and the top half moves down so if they did put the connector in front it would have accommodate that movement. The touch area goes all the way down to the front edge so having a void there when not plugged in was probably a bad user experience. There really is no other place to put it than on the bottom. It was probably the least objectionable trade off. With their minimalist philosophy they most likely rejected a cradle as it would be just another wired accessory sitting on the desktop. Personally I don't mind the cradle concept but probably Jony does.
I hate the term wireless. Last time I checked I have something plugged into my outlet that charges my ?Watch. How is that wireless?
Wireless while in use, So I'd say pretty decent. Drive your car much with the gasoline hose sticking into the fuel port much?
Versus a keyboard or mouse or pad where the function signal transfers over a permanent wire connecting the accessory to the main device for it to function at all.
Nola, that's hard to imagine just yet when I have to change out the batteries of my existing mouse every week. That might be the disconnect!
It may be something like when they went from removable batteries to builtins on the laptops: they were able to cram in a lot more volume when all the structure for removal etc. was eliminated.

my copies work fine. is your computer broken?

Because when I'm not using my mouse, I don't have to plug it in. I can just park it on top of the Apple Watch charger and it's always topped up.

I guess Apple will sell new mouse charging port dock like iPhone.
Put charging port at bottom of mouse is design error.. Simple is that.
I saw CNET review on new mouse and he said it has not much weight. Which mean internal battery is not that big.
I wonder how long this internal battery will last. Can even user replaceable?
Apple getting into too much everything close down. From MacBook Pro to mouse.
New keyboard, pad has charging port is in front so you can use as corded version.
You just losing 2 USB ports. Or buy USB expansion dock.
theres absolutely no reason to do that when the mouse lasts for a month per charge.
c'mon guys. this isnt Dell, youre making it more complicated than it needs to be. (which is why you dont work for apple...)
His Windows PC works just fine.

Mine lasts a lot longer, maybe 3-4 weeks. I turn it off every night though.

You could very well be right. I'll hold future fire until I get mine delivered and see how long it lasts.
